JOB TITLE: FLEET MAINTENANCE UTILITY WORKER (6 MO)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor, Fleet Services, this position provides support to the Fleet Services Staff as needed. Duties include vehicle pickup & delivery, parts pickup and delivery, small class pool vehicle cleaning, Fleet Services housekeeping services, assisting office, mechanic & Safety Lab staff. Other task requirements to the Fleet Services Garage area as instructed by the Fleet Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Provides general housekeeping services throughout Fleet Services as directed. Includes emptying dumpsters with forklift, floor sweeper operation, hand sweeping, window washing, various fleet common area cleaning, storing of supplies, organizing work responsibilities and other custodial related duties as required.
•Conducts washing & cleaning of the interior and exterior of company pool vehicles.
•Picks up and delivers parts and equipment for Fleet Services.
•Picks up and delivers small and large class vehicles being serviced in accordance with Fleet Services Scheduling protocol.
•Strong mechanical ability to assist mechanics in vehicle maintenance when needed.
•Will support Safety Lab needs as instructed by the Fleet Supervisor.
•Performs minor snow removal tasks and light general yard maintenance as needed. May operate snow plowing equipment in between snowstorms.
•Must become familiar with all OSHA Safety Rules pertaining to a fleet maintenance garage, SOPS, Versant Power Safety Manual and conducts himself/herself in accordance with these rules. Safety is the most important job we do at Versant Power.
•Must be able to read and interpret operator’s manuals on equipment being used.
•Must be able to safely and successfully operate the equipment used in this job description to gain an understanding of its capabilities and limitations.
•Must use computer for sending and receiving emails and EDS training.
•Must enter timecard into FIS.
•Works in accordance with the documented environmental procedures, instructions and specific responsibilities as defined in individual procedures and instructions. Reports problems or deviations associated with Environmental Management System (EMS) to the Environmental Department.
•Performs other related duties as assigned by the Fleet Supervisor or his or her designate.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Must keep current with all assigned EDS (Employee Development System) training.
•Must adhere to all safety initiatives required by the company.
•Performs other related duties as assigned including designated duties associated with System Restoration. This includes the workforce flexibility model requirements as agreed upon with the Collective Bargaining representative.
REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•High School graduate or equivalent required. Some post high school education in the trades such as electrical, mechanical or plumbing is preferred.
•Prior operator and mechanical experience on large class trucks is required.
•Must be able to interpret written instructions and then execute to task completion.
•Position requires the incumbent to hold and maintain a valid State of Maine Class A Commercial Driver’s or be able to acquire a CDL A license within six months. CDL A learner’s permit must be acquired within the first six months of employment if the applicant does not have a current CDL A or B license.
•Forklift license required.
•Floor sweeper operation required.
•Transport large class vehicles with tow behind is required.
•Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Word, Basic Excel, Outlook and the GRID and computer proficiency required.
•Candidate must be mechanically inclined.
•Participation is required in Controlled Substances and Alcohol Use and Testing Program as prescribed by the US Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Part 382, including pre-employment and random testing.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
•Position requires standing, walking, bending, crouching, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing, pulling, carrying reaching above and below.
•Position requires lifting and lowering up to 50 pounds.
•Position requires manual dexterity.
•Position requires working with others in a team environment.
•Position involves exposure to extreme cold, heat, burns, dampness, working from heights and potential skin and lung irritants.
•Position may require irregular hours.
WORKING SCHEDULE:
•Monday - Friday, first shift 7:00am to 3:30pm. 40 hours per week.
•Occasional irregular hours on off duty hours, nights and weekends as required to cover System Storm Emergencies.
•Flexible work hours may be required in accordance with provisions of Article V, Section 5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
RATE OF PAY:
•In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
