The Fabrication Operations Manager leads people and processes, overseeing the day-to-day activities of our machining, press brake, and laser teams. The Fabrication Operations Manager will direct their team with the goal of manufacturing the best possible products on time while maintaining a safe working environment, continuously improving processes, and developing employees in knowledge and competency. They must be able to respond positively to changes and challenges. They should be able to think outside the box to solve problems and willing to go the extra mile to ensure department goals are met. The ideal candidate will embrace the objectives and the culture of the company and can integrate them into daily decisions/actions consistently. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review drawings and specifications for a particular product and plan the production process
o Checking for accuracy with calibrated measuring tools
o Watching for problems in the production process
- Machine maintenance and repair
- Monitor work and material usage
- Identify potential challenges within the production process and provide innovative solutions and problem resolution
- Quality inspection and assurance of all machined products
- Lead and organize scheduling
- Coordinate production schedule
- Prioritize production elements
- Coordinate inventory requirements with purchasing
- Provides training, direction, and feedback for the machining team- 5 + years of experience operating CNC machines, press brakes, router tables, laser cutters, and other machines
- Proven expertise in both CNC and manual machining including, set up, tooling, programming and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of shop math and computers
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Effective communication across departments
- Expert knowledge of means and methods, material types, fabrication details, and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards

The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities. Job duties are performed in production areas and onboard vessels and require:
- The ability to walk to and from job sites, climb inclined stairways, and use vertical ladders
- Frequent bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands/fingers for various tasks
- Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling
- Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- The ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation
- The ability to enter and work in confined spaces, such as manholes
- The ability to work at heights
- Wearing required safety gear, including a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing
