At Torngat Metals, we are developing the Strange Lake project to meet the urgent global demand for responsibly sourced rare earths that are essential to the energy transition. A key component of our project is located in Labrador, where proposed transportation infrastructure—including a seasonal access road and port facilities—will connect the Strange Lake mining site to global markets. Collaboration with Indigenous partners is central to our approach.
Torngat Metals is seeking Liaison Officers based in Labrador, including Goose Bay, Sheshatshiu, Natuashish, Nain, or Hopedale.
Reporting to the Director, Community Relations and Partnerships, the successful candidates will contribute to building sustainable relationships and supporting engagement activities with Innu and Inuit communities. The role will evolve as the project progresses toward the operational phase.
- Actively contribute to maintaining respectful and sustainable relationships with Innu and Inuit communities in Labrador
- Support engagement and consultation activities with community members, organizations, and rights holders
- Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including Elders, youth, hunters, fishers, land users, businesses, and community leaders
- Assist in planning and coordinating meetings, information sessions, and community activities (logistics, organization, follow-up)
- Ensure clear and accessible communication of project-related information
- Gather, document, and communicate community feedback, concerns, and expectations
- Contribute to integrating Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into project activities
- Support the preparation and dissemination of materials (presentations, communications, follow-ups)
- Maintain tracking tools to support reporting and follow-up on commitments
- Identify emerging issues and contribute to adapting engagement approaches
- Strong knowledge of Labrador communities (Innu and Nunatsiavut)
- Postsecondary education (DEC or Bachelor’s degree) in communications, human relations, social work, community development, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience in community relations, customer service, or field-based roles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build trust and demonstrate diplomacy
- Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and attention to detail
- Proficiency in English; functional French
- Knowledge of Innu-aimun and/or Inuttitut is a strong asset
- Availability for local travel (approximately 25%)
