The Level 2 Ultrasonic Weld Inspector is responsible for performing ultrasonic testing (UT) on welded components and structures to ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and applicable codes.
- Perform ultrasonic weld inspections on ferrous and/or non-ferrous materials per approved procedures.
- Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable codes, standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Sec V, API 1104), and customer specifications.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, records, and calibration documentation.
- Set up and calibrate ultrasonic equipment and transducers.
- Identify, classify, and document weld discontinuities or defects.
- Coordinate with welders, production, and quality teams to communicate findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain cleanliness of equipment and inspection area.
- Perform fabrication layout inspections and final weld out inspections that include dimensional verifications.
- Participate in audits, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train or oversee Level 1 technicians as required.
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or associate degree preferred.
- ASNT Level II certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or equivalent (e.g., NAS-410).
- Other NDT certifications (MT, PT, VT, RT) are a plus.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in ultrasonic weld inspection.
- Familiarity with weld codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, API).
- Hands-on experience with digital UT equipment and software.
- Strong understanding of weld symbols, processes, and defects.
- Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
