We are seeking a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) who will not only oversee inspections but also play a vital role in training, mentoring, and building knowledge across our shop. This individual will ensure work instructions are clearly understood and executed, while serving as a liaison between management and the floor. The right candidate is equally comfortable with technical standards and hands-on teaching.
- Perform inspections of welds, assemblies, and structural members in compliance with AWS D1.1, AISC, and customer specifications.
- Develop and deliver training and instruction to welders, fitters, and operators to improve skillsets and reinforce company QC standards.
- Act as a bridge between the office and the shop floor, ensuring work instructions are communicated, understood, and executed correctly.
- Document inspections, non-conformances, and corrective actions with a focus on teaching and continuous improvement.
- Verify and maintain welder qualifications, coordinate welder testing, and support skill development.
- Assist in developing and improving standard operating procedures (SOPs) and shop instructions.
- Collaborate with project management, plant management, and crew leaders to maintain schedule, quality, and safety standards.
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) credential through AWS (required).
- 3+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication.- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AISC standards.
- Proven ability to train, teach, and mentor welders and shop staff.
- Effective communicator who can translate management expectations into shop-floor execution.
- Proficiency with QC documentation and reporting systems.
