Under limited supervision, provides leadership and direction to technical staff to accomplish the repair and maintenance of automotive, heavy-duty, and industrial fleet equipment.
Provides leadership, guidance, and direction, to automotive/heavy duty technicians. May assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in their absence.Conducts highly skilled mechanical, fluid, and electro-mechanical work, in the repair and overhaul of a wide variety of fleet equipment including automobiles, trucks, tractors, cranes, and specialized trucks. Reviews work with technicians to obtain description of vehicle concerns and discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements. Responds to customers’ needs and concerns in a timely manner. Ensures all repairs and services are made in accordance with manufactures’ specifications, and State and Federal regulations. Ensures work activities are performed in a safe and responsible manner. Ensures that Work Orders (WOs) are opened and closed timely and generates reports for the Fleet Management Supervisor. Utilizes financial management system to order parts, supplies and tires. Completes other duties as assigned.
Proficient knowledge of the mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks and other related heavy and light motorized equipment and vehicles. Extensive knowledge of the standard methods and practices of automotive repair, as well as the proper use of tools and equipment of the trade. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Proficient knowledge of mechanical maintenance of heavy machinery and chemical handling equipment. Knowledge in rigging and use of overhead cranes, chain pullers and hoists, and block and tackle for lifting or moving heavy loads. Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office applications and tools. Skills using and caring for standard tools and equipment used in motorized equipment and vehicle repair and maintenance. Skill in the use of all types of measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, alignment tools, etc. Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Skills to effectively motivate a team of automobile technicians. Ability to assist technicians in adjusting mechanical defects and repairs in engines and equipment. Ability to understand and follow assignments and complex instructions received in the form of oral and/or written work orders. Ability to function as the leader in support of a team or work independently as needed.
High School Diploma or GED or US Equivalency report required and five (5) years’ experience in general automobile or truck maintenance and repairs or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
An Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or related field preferred.
Requires a valid Texas Commercial Class B Driver License and a safe driving record as measured by company policy. A Commercial Class B Driver License from another state may be allowed; however, candidate must acquire a Commercial Class B Driver License from the State of Texas within 90 days of employment.
A State of Texas Motor Vehicle Inspector Certification is preferred.
