The Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing coal samples to ensure correct composition for analysis. The Laboratory Technician may also participate in sample collection.
The work schedule for the Laboratory Technician is Monday to Friday 8:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m. with opportunities for overtime depending on workload.
- Perform all work in a safe manner while controlling hazards associated with tasks
- Receive and log coal samples into the laboratory database
- Prepare coal samples using laboratory equipment consistent with company procedures
- Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen coal samples
- Recognize and report any sample issues
- Keep the laboratory and all equipment clean
- Provide excellent customer service with a professional attitude to ensure all customer expectations are met
- Assist Laboratory Analysts in basic laboratory tests and procedures
- Follow all company policies and procedures to ensure sample integrity and quality control
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Commercial and/or Coal Laboratory experience preferred
- Valid Driver's License
- WV Safety Sensitive Certification preferred
- Knowledge of computers and databased required
- Capable of prioritizing tasks to meet goals and ensure product quality
- Capable of multi-tasking to meet turn-around times and laboratory demands
- Ability to take direction and work independenlty to complete tasks
- Sound problem solving skills with the ability to be resourceful
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work well with others
- Physical strength to lift 50 lbs.
