Role Overview
Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager and the Director of Engineering, this role involves cross-disciplinary coordination with electrical, mechanical, instrumentation/controls, and civil/structural teams, as well as procurement, project controls, and project management. You will support design execution, troubleshoot technical challenges, and gain full project lifecycle experience.
· Perform equipment sizing, hydraulic calculations, and heat/material balance preparation
· Develop design calculations, briefs, and equipment/instrumentation datasheets
· Review vendor documentation and perform technical evaluations
· Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
· Participate in process safety engineering (relief load estimation, relief valve sizing, etc.)
· Contribute to HAZOP studies and action item closeouts
· Prepare detailed engineering reports, studies, and briefs
· Collaborate across disciplines to ensure timely, accurate, and standard-compliant design information
· Recommend improvements to design standards for cost, quality, and maintainability
· Degree in Chemical Engineering (0–4 years experience preferred)
· Other engineering disciplines or chemical engineering diplomas will be considered
· Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. or CET in Alberta
· Experience in oil, gas, or related mechanical equipment fields (pumps, compressors, etc.) preferred
· Experience in O&G, chemical, or petrochemical industries
· Familiarity with process simulation tools (HYSYS, VMG, ASPEN, METSIM)
· Knowledge of process safety methodologies (HAZOP, SIL, LOPA)
· Experience with SmartPlant, AutoCAD, or similar software
· Experience in project-based teams and interdisciplinary coordination
· Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
· Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Willingness to travel to vendor or construction sites
