Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to work as a Specialist Process Engineer? In this role, you will be a part of the Central Development Process Engineering team who is accountable for process engineering services and deliverables on water treatment projects through a staged-gated project development and execution process. You will work within an integrated team environment with technical, operations, and project professionals through scoping, DBM, FEED, and Detailed Engineering.
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in an engineering or operations related position with a background in water treatment, oil sands extraction or energy & utility facilities
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mineral or Chemical Engineering
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a Professional Engineer
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions, conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations
- Effective communication skills with proven ability to distill technical information for broader audiences
- Established self-motivation and organizational skills; demonstrated initiative to ensure that projects and tasks are completed on time and correctly
- Develop and maintain water chemistry models and simulations
- Perform process calculations and system evaluations to identify value creation opportunities and resolve complex technical issues
- Analyze process data and assess risk to understand trade-offs, set process engineering design basis, and guide design criteria for cost-effective design
- Ensure process designs minimize hazards, achieve the desired intent, minimize costs, and adhere to relevant internal and external industry standards
- Prepare heat and material balances, equipment sizing and evaluation, PFDs/P&ID’s as required
- Perform technical supervision on external consultants and EP contractors, support Design Reviews, PHA’s and risk assessments
- Support operation/maintenance/reliability/engineering team through project execution and commissioning and start-up
- Ensure seamless integration of project scope with existing facilities, and evaluate synergy opportunities across assets and project suites
- Provide emergency technical support to Base Plant, Fort Hills and Syncrude
- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
- Travel between Fort McMurray and Calgary as required
- Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
