Overview
Marshall County REMC is seeking a skilled and dedicated Journeyman Lineman to join our team that will directly report to the Working Foreman(s) under supervision of the Operations Manager.
About the role:
This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems, particularly in high voltage environments. A successful candidate possesses a strong background in utility work and is adept at using various tools and equipment necessary for safe practices on line construction and maintenance.
The specific objectives for this position include:
1. Provide superior service to Marshall County REMC member-owners while maintaining a professional and courteous workplace.
2. Apply strong knowledge of distribution systems, safety procedures and best practices to our operations team and department.
3. Demonstrate integrity, respect, accountability and strong work ethic in all interactions.
· Install, maintain and repair electrical distribution systems, including overhead
and underground lines.
· Perform utility locating to ensure the safety of excavation activities.
· Operate bucket trucks and rigs for line work at elevated heights.
· Utilize voltmeters, ohmmeters and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot
electrical issues.
· Climb electric poles for installation and maintenance tasks at pole top,
including knowledge and ability to complete pole top rescue.
· Collaborate with team members on construction sites to ensure adherence
to safety protocols.
· Conduct inspections of electrical systems to identify potential hazards or
areas for improvement.
· Work weekly standby rotation to repair and maintain distribution lines
after or outside or normal hours of operation.
- Successful completion of a powerline apprenticeship program.
- 4-5 years of experience working with overhead/underground electric distribution lines and facilities, including line constructions, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Hot line work experience desired.
- Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) line specifications, the National Electric Code (NEC), the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Rules and Regulations.
- Proficient in utility locating techniques and equipment.
- Experience operating voltmeters and ohmmeters for electrical testing is required.
- Familiar with rigging practices and bucket truck operations.
- Effective problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Positive attitude, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions.
· Must live within 30 minutes (30 miles) of legal driving time from the office.
· Class A CDL preferred or ability to obtain CDL A within 90 days of hire.
· Able and willing to work in inclement weather.
· A pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check is required.
· Must be knowledgeable of high voltage systems and follow and practice safety procedures related to electrical work.
· Heavy work occasionally requiring up to 100lbs of force, lifting/carrying 10-15lbs frequently.
· Must have indicated the ability to work on own initiative, cooperate with other employees to train and take instruction from supervisors.
