Journey Lineman

Overview

Willmar Municipal Utilities (WMU), Willmar, MN is seeking a Journey Line Technician to join our Line Distribution Department. This position performs technical and manual work installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical distribution systems and street lighting. The successful candidate will participate in an emergency and on-call rotation with premium pay and live within a defined residency response time. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to ensure safe, reliable electric service to the community.

Primary Responsibilities

· Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.

· Install, repair, and maintain street lighting systems.

- Respond to emergency outages and problem situations to restore service promptly.

- Perform substation maintenance and switching as required.

- Maintain rights‑of‑way through trimming trees and removing obstructions.

- Operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment required for electrical distribution work.

- Work safely and efficiently in compliance with state and federal safety rules, APPA NESC standards, traffic control requirements, and WMU policies.

Qualifications

- Completion of a vocational or technical college lineworker course and successfully completed a Lineworker Apprenticeship Program (required).

- Minnesota Class A Driver’s License (required).

- Compliance with Willmar’s drug and alcohol substance abuse policy.

- Successfully pass a fitness for duty screening and drug test.

Desired Qualifications:

· Two to five years of employment as a journeyman with an electric utility.

Pay: $43.57 - $52.86 per hour

Experience:

- journeyman: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

- CDL (Preferred)

- Journey Lineman License (Required)

Ability to Relocate:

- Willmar, MN 56201: Relocate before starting work (Required)
