IT and Network Architect - NETE ( CCS25-19) Weir Canada, Inc. Halifax, NS, Canada Permanent Full-time, Onsite work Purpose of Role:

Weir is currently looking for a permanent, full-time IT Architect with a focus on network design and administration. In this role, the IT Architect will be responsible for documenting, developing, testing, and integrating network architectures, network services, and software tools that support the simulation of naval ships. The network services and software tools on these networks are used to facilitate communications between commercial simulation applications; to record, collect and analyze output data from simulation applications; and to provide configuration control and management for all simulation applications and tools. The network design and development will also involve supporting the activities to accredit networks. The activities of the IT Architect support the test and production environments used to run simulations in a state-of-the-art high-performance computing facility.

The main thrust of this work shall be to find and provide ways to improve the capabilities of the modelling and simulation team at DND’s Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Center (CFMWC) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is an opportunity to become involved from beginning to end in the software design, build and test cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

- Plan, develop, and implement network hardware and software to enhance modeling and simulation capabilities at CFMWC;

- Test, verify, and maintain software and lab networks supporting simulation activities;

- Document technical designs and contribute to effective software change management practices;

- Provide support for ship simulation development and validation efforts;

- Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal teams, subject matter experts, and external partners to meet requirements and align on solutions;

- Lead design reviews and present technical arguments and accreditation documentation clearly and logically; and

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

- Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada;

- Mandatory: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent is required, while a Master’s degree or above is highly desirable;

- Required: Prior experience in industry with network system design and technical requirements definition, system administration including 2 years using UNIX or Linux based systems;

- Required: Possess strong scientific and mathematical aptitude with a passion for problem-solving, understanding of physical system modeling;

- Desirable: Experienced in Windows server and Active Directory management, Cisco Networking, Switching and Routing including ASA firewalls and ACLs; and

- Desirable: Familiarity with IT security concepts and design, Data Center level storage solutions, modern software development tools and processes such as C++, Python, Git, GitLab, and/or SQL.
