We deliver affordable, reliable ELECTRICITY, with a focus on EFFICIENCY and a commitment to ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP. We are dedicated to ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, providing resources and supporting economic growth. Our EMPLOYEES are our greatest asset in meeting our mission to be an Oklahoma Agency of Excellence.
The Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) is an agency of the state of Oklahoma, created by the Oklahoma Legislature in 1935 to be a “conservation and reclamation district for the waters of the Grand River”. GRDA is a non-appropriated state agency, fully funded by revenues from the sale of electricity and water instead of tax dollars.
GRDA utilizes a diverse portfolio of assets to generate, transmit and sell electricity to Oklahoma municipalities, electric cooperatives and industrial customers, as well as off-system customers across a four-state region. At the same time, GRDA manages over 70,000 surface acres of lake waters in Oklahoma, as well as the waters of the scenic Illinois River.
The Grand River Energy Center (GREC) is a large multi-unit thermal power generation facility owned by the GRDA. The plant plays a critical role in providing reliable, flexible generation while maintaining high standards for safety and environmental performance.
GRDA is seeking motivated students to serve as Plant Operations Interns to support daily operations at the Grand River Energy Center. This internship provides exposure to control room operations, field operations, and plant systems under the supervision of experienced operators.
- Assist plant operators with monitoring equipment and system conditions
- Observe control room operations and field rounds
- Support startup, shutdown, and operational evolutions under supervision
- Assist with operational logs, reports, and documentation
- Participate in safety meetings and tailboards
- Perform housekeeping and assigned support tasks
Work is performed in an industrial power plant environment with exposure to heat, noise, rotating equipment, and industrial hazards, and may include standing and walking for extended periods; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, stooping, and working in confined spaces; and lifting up to 50 pounds. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, water hazards, high-voltage equipment, and rotating machinery. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required.
This is a full-time internship position, typically working rotating 12-hour shift work. Start and end dates are flexible based on academic schedules and operational needs.
Engineering, Industrial Technology, Electromechanical, or Power Plant / Energy Technology program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. A strong interest in thermal generation, mechanical systems, or electrical systems is preferred. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully complete a background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen.
