An exciting career awaits you

At MPC, we’re committed to being a great place to work – one that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives, develops our people, and fosters a collaborative team environment.

Overview:

Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) offers internship and co-op opportunities to high-performing college students who want meaningful hands-on experiences in their fields of study. The following core values guide MPC’s approach to doing business: safety and environmental stewardship; integrity; inclusion; collaboration; and excellence. Interns and co-ops work side by side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams who create value for the company’s shareholders. MPC believes that how we conduct our business is just as important as the bottom line.

MPC's Global Marine organization is offering a high-impact Commercial Marine Operator Intern role for students who want real responsibility in global vessel and cargo operations. You will join a team at the center of domestic and international waterborne logistics, helping move energy products safely and efficiently around the world.

Responsibilities:

- Support real-time voyages for Marathon time-chartered vessels, helping manage day-to-day operations and logistics for waterborne cargoes.

- Coordinate with Captains, Brokers, Chartering, Trading, Scheduling, Agents, Tug providers, Bunker Vendors, and Terminals to keep ships and cargoes on track.

- Gain exposure to Marine Vetting, Port Management, and the commercial aspects of the Global Marine business.

- Split your time between job shadowing, hands-on voyage management work, and a focused project that drives value for the team.

You will report to the Commercial Marine Operations Manager and work closely with a dedicated mentor committed to creating a positive, engaging, and educational experience.

Skills Gained:

During this internship, you can expect to:

- Develop a strong understanding of commercial marine operations, shipping logistics, and how decisions impact real-world voyages.

Qualifications:

- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related field.

- Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor's degree seeking program for the duration of the experience.

- Have Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status at the time of the internship (Summer 2026).

- Strong academic performance.

- Candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

- Be able to work on-site in San Antonio, TX for the full Summer 2026 term (Monday–Friday, 8-hour days, 40 hours per week.).

- Be able to complete limited travel, up to one week of overnight travel during the internship; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.

- MIN - $24.38 per hour / MAX - $28.44 per hour

As an energy industry leader, our career opportunities fuel personal and professional growth.
