INDUSTRIAL PLANT MECHANIC I

JOB SUMMARY: H 106 ($19.12 hr starting pay)

Performs semi-skilled and skilled work of routine to above average difficulty in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the mechanical equipment associated with a water and/or wastewater treatment plant and systems. May lead or train other workers as assigned. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level skilled mechanic or other supervisory personnel who is available for instruction/assistance in the solution of new, unusual, or unforeseen problems or situations. May be required to perform emergency repairs after hours, on weekends or holidays.

Essential Job Functions

Responds to calls for emergency repairs.

Observes, tests, and inspects equipment and machinery for proper operation.

Repairs large capacity pumps, motors, floats, valves, pipes, bar screens, large horsepower gear boxes, incinerators, conveyor belts, etc.

Performs routine maintenance and repair work.

Removes and replaces pumps and motors.

Uses portable pumps to de-water flooded spaces.

Overhauls pumps, motors, and other equipment.

Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.

Maintains tools and equipment.

Maintains various activity records and logs of supplies and equipment used.

Prepares requisitions for the purchase of supplies and materials.

Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer lines, pipes, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, and other related equipment.

Extracts scheduled preventive maintenance checks from the asset management system and takes action as required.

All other duties as assigned.

INDUSTRIAL PLANT MECHANIC IIÂ

JOB SUMMARY: H 111 ($25.58 hr starting pay)

Performs skilled work of average to considerable difficulty in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment associated with water and/or waste water treatment operations. May lead and train other mechanics or craft workers when assigned. Work is performed independently under the direction of higher-level supervisory personnel.

Essential Job Functions

Responds to calls for emergency service.

Performs advanced industrial maintenance activities with little supervision.

Observes, tests, and inspects equipment and systems for proper operation.

Uses precision measuring instruments.

Dismantles, overhauls, and maintains heavy industrial equipment such as electric motors, generators, high capacity pumps, ventilation systems, blowers, conveyor systems, chlorinators, chemical feed systems, large horsepower gear boxes, mixers, floats, valves, pipes, bar screens, channel grinders, etc.

Designs and fabricates repair parts.

Uses gas and ARCÂ welding equipment.

Replaces parts, reassembles machinery, and tests for proper operation.

Reads blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and technical manuals.

Receives and reviews work orders/requests to determine requirements.

Responds to trouble calls, locates and identifies nature and cause of problem, and takes corrective action.

Plans and schedules job execution and estimates costs and man-hour requirements.

Prepares requisitions and/or purchases supplies and materials.

Assists with the inventory of spare parts.

Responsible for the inventory of small tools and parts on assigned service vehicle.

Maintains equipment and tools.

Maintains various activity records and logs.

Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.

Extracts scheduled preventive maintenance checks from the asset management system and takes action as required.

Inspects work performed by private contractors for compliance with approved plans and specifications as needed.

Sets up and operates rigging and equipment to move or place heavy equipment in repair and installation of work.

All other duties as assigned.

For Both Positions

High school diploma or equivalent. Â (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.)

Employment offers to all new hires are contingent upon the job candidates successfully passing background and reference checks, drug screening, and post job offer physicals (that may include pulmonary testing). All applicants are subject to physical assessments as required by job.

Industrial Plant Mechanic I

Two years of progressively responsible experience in an industrial plant environment performing mechanical maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, etc.

Additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance for application in an industrial plant environment is preferred.

Intermediate proficiency in welding; welding certification is desirable but not required.

A general knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting is desired.

Basic Windows knowledge required.

Industrial Plant Mechanic II

Six years of demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on the equipment of a water/wastewater treatment plant, e.g., pumps, motors, gear boxes, blowers, ventilating equipment, etc.; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance is preferred.

Intermediate proficiency in welding; experience in MIG welding with metals, especially aluminum and stainless steel is desirable.

Basic Windows and computer knowledge required.

License Requirement

Possession of a Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver License or ability to obtain a Class "A" CDL within six months of employment.

Ten (10) hours of OSHA training is desirable.

A good attendance record is vital in this position. Â Attendance records will be a contributing factor for selection.

Licenses and Certifications

Possession of or ability to obtain a Florida Class A Commercial Driver License within six months of hire date is required. Selected candidate must successfully pass a three-year motor vehicle check.

A written test will be administered to determine mechanical aptitude, knowledge of safety practices, knowledge and use of tools and reading, understanding and interpreting written material, and basic mathematics.While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, bend body downward and forward by bending spine and knees and is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee may regularly be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibrating machinery and equipment.

The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately loud for limited durations while working with power tools, equipment, or machinery following all prescribed safety rules and regulations.

As a disaster team member, the employee is required to be available to work before, during, and after any disaster as directed.Â

Industrial Plant Mechanic I

Knowledge of

Rotating equipment such as speed reducers; conveyors, pumps, gear boxes, right angle and in-line gear drives.

Tools, methods, materials, and techniques of the specialty area. Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.

Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Basic mathematics.

Basic Windows knowledge required.

Skill in

Performing maintenance and repair tasks.

Industrial Plant Mechanic II

Knowledge of

Operation and care of power and hand tools and specialized equipment.

Operation and care of heavy equipment.

Occupational hazards and safety precautions and use of PPE.

Language Skills

Ability to read and understand designs, sketches, blueprints, wiring diagrams, operating and repair instruction, and manuals.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, contractors, vendors and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, calipers, and pipe diameter tape.

Computer Skills

Basic Windows and computer knowledge required.

Reasoning & Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to plan and assign work to personnel to accomplish assigned jobs.
