Job Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile HR Generalist - Labor Relations to support the Human Resources department during a transformation initiative. This individual will engage in a variety of HR tasks, particularly focusing on labor relations, employee engagement, and HR operations. The ideal candidate will have experience working in union environments, possess excellent communication skills, and be comfortable handling sensitive HR matters with professionalism and discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
•Serve as the first point of contact for employees regarding HR issues and provide guidance to management on employee relations matters.
•Collaborate with HR leadership on escalated employee relations concerns and ensure appropriate resolution.
•Partner with management in the recruitment process, including posting roles, scheduling interviews, processing applications, and conducting background checks.
•Support candidates through the application process and respond to general recruitment inquiries.
•Advise managers on HR practices including interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, and performance reviews.
•Prepare offer letters and employee documentation, ensuring timely updates in the HRIS (SAP).
•Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
•Administer and support HR programs related to benefits, leave management, workers’ compensation, investigations, performance management, and recognition.
•Ensure all HR processes comply with relevant labor laws and organizational policies.
•Assist in internal HR meetings, employee events, and special projects.
Required Skills & Competencies:
•Familiarity with union contracts and labor protocols.
•Ability to work effectively with both union and salaried employees.
•Understanding of medical and supplemental employee benefit plans.
•High level of discretion and ability to manage confidential information.
•Flexibility to manage shifting priorities and workloads.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills for handling sensitive conversations.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with HRIS systems (SAP preferred).
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration preferred.
•Minimum 2 years of experience in an HR generalist role, with a focus on labor or employee relations preferred.
•Experience working in a unionized environment or in the utility/public sector preferred.
•PHR or SPHR certification is preferred.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $40.00 - $44.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
