HITS (Hazardous & Toxic Substance) Technician

The HITS Technician performs hands-on hazardous tank and piping abatement tasks under the direction of a Leadman or Supervisor. This role supports abatement operations while ensuring all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with State and Federal regulations.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

- Perform hazardous tank and piping abatement tasks according to project plans and instructions from supervisors or leads.

- Assist with cleaning, removal, and disposal of hazardous materials, sludge, and residues from tanks, piping, and related equipment.

- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely to perform assigned tasks.

- Follow all State and Federal regulations, client requirements, and company safety procedures.

- Document task completion, safety observations, and report hazards to supervisors.

- Assist with loading, unloading, and staging of materials and equipment.

- Work effectively as part of a crew in remote and industrial environments.

- Maintain 100% “Safety Standards and Accountability” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:

- Maintain compliance with the required HSE Training.

- Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.

- Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly and willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident.

- Performs work in strict compliance with permitting requirements, Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) Standards and other compliance-oriented directives.

- Participating in safety meetings, working safely, and maintaining a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI Industrial Services.

- Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.

- Demonstrate and promote safe work practices by participating in JSA reviews, pre-job walkdowns and safety START card preparations covering work activities and materials required by the company and the client.

- Promote and participate in Safety Programs.

- Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Ability to perform physically demanding work in industrial and remote environments.

- Knowledge of basic hazardous material handling and abatement procedures.

- Strong teamwork and communication skills.

- Ability to work in harsh weather and remote locations.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

- Must be 18 years old

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Valid driver's license

- NSTC card

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous North Slope or remote industrial site experience

- Strong attention to safety procedures and situational awareness.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.

Position may involve exposure to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors. This position may involve working with potentially hazardous materials and waste.

A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard. FCE LEVEL #3

- MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.

- LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.

- HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.

- VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.

- RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurements will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
