About This Job

Join Realta Fusion as a Fusion Facilities Designer and play a key role in shaping the infrastructure behind next-generation fusion research. The Fusion Facilities Designer will create detailed technical drawings and layouts for Realta's fusion research facilities and pilot plant infrastructure. This role supports the design and construction of specialized facilities housing fusion devices, including process piping systems, equipment layouts, utility distribution, and building infrastructure. You will work closely with facilities engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers to translate design concepts into accurate, construction-ready drawings. The ideal candidate has strong CAD skills, understanding of industrial facilities and piping systems, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail directly impacts construction quality and project timelines.

Realta Fusion is a rapidly growing start-up developing compact magnetic mirror fusion energy systems to address the biggest challenge of our time – tackling global climate change while ensuring a sufficient energy supply for at least ten billion people on (and off) earth. We are building a team with diverse talents dedicated to making fusion energy a

real

solution to humanity’s most pressing problem.

Key Responsibilities Technical Drafting & Documentation

- Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings for process piping systems, equipment layouts, and facility infrastructure

- Develop piping isometric drawings, P&IDs, and equipment arrangement drawings for fusion facilities

- Produce architectural and structural drawings for research buildings and pilot plant facilities

- Generate utility distribution drawings including electrical, HVAC, compressed gases, and cooling water systems

- Create as-built drawings documenting field changes and final configurations

- Maintain drawing revision control and ensure compliance with company standards

Design Support & Coordination

- Support facilities engineers in developing equipment layouts and space planning for fusion devices

- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines to resolve interface conflicts

- Review vendor drawings and equipment submittals for dimensional accuracy and integration

- Assist in clash detection and 3D coordination using BIM/modeling tools

- Participate in design reviews and provide input on constructability and layout optimization

Project Execution

- Work from engineering sketches, markups, and verbal instructions to produce final drawings

- Meet project deadlines and deliverable schedules for construction and procurement packages

- Incorporate engineering change orders and field modifications into drawing sets

- Support permitting submittals with required drawings and documentation

- Coordinate with external architects, engineers, and contractors on drawing requirements

Standards & Quality

- Follow applicable codes and standards for piping, pressure vessels, and industrial facilities (ASME B31.3, ANSI, AWS)

- Ensure drawings meet industry standards for clarity, accuracy, and completeness

- Maintain organized file structures and CAD libraries for reusability

- Support development of company drafting standards and templates

Qualifications

Required:

- Associate degree in Drafting Technology, CAD Design, or related technical field; or equivalent vocational training - 3+ years of drafting experience in industrial facilities, process plants, or research facilities

- Experience with process piping systems, equipment layouts, and facility design, with a strong familiarity of process piping and instrumentation components and specifications

- Proficiency in CAD tools (AutCAD Plant 3D or similar) and experience with 3D modeling software (Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)

- Understanding of piping design, isometric drawing generation, and P&ID interpretation

- Familiarity with industrial equipment layouts and building systems

- Knowledge of drafting standards and best practices for industrial facilities

- Basic understanding of welding symbols, GD&T, and engineering specifications

Preferred

- Experience with Revit MEP or BIM coordination tools (Navisworks, BIM 360)

- Experience with cost estimating databases and methodologies

- Background in research facilities, cleanrooms, or specialized industrial environments

- Familiarity with high-purity piping systems, vacuum systems, or cryogenic systems

- Understanding of electrical distribution, HVAC systems, or fire protection systems

- Experience with permit sets and construction documentation

- Knowledge of utility infrastructure and site civil design

- Interest in fusion energy, advanced manufacturing, or clean energy technologies
