Field Service Technician - Water

Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) is a public utility proudly serving the citizens of Columbia and Maury County Tennessee since 1939. CPWS is recruiting a Field Service Technician - Water to read meters and record volume used by over 27,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

This position subject to standby, afterhours, and/or emergency call out. Field Service Technicians must meet residency requirements (must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County).

The primary duties & responsibilities of this position include:

- Collect accurate readings for billing purposes

- Process service orders included but not limited to meter changes, connects and disconnects, and non-payment

- Conduct drive-by meter reads following specific routes

- Inspect meters and connections for defects, damages, and unauthorized connections

- Verify readings to locate abnormal consumption or stopped meters

- Record and document reasons for fluctuations in consumption

- Responsible for maintaining the integrity of all billing and metering data

- Change out metering equipment as needed

- Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work extended hours standing, kneeling and/or crouching, and walk across undeveloped terrain. Able to get in and out of a vehicle multiple times during the day. Able to work in weather conditions that may be cold, hot, rainy, and windy. Able to navigate and operate in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, etc., which may require bending, crawling, and maneuvering in tight areas. Able to work inside and outside and be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or equivalent required

- Maintain a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License; driving record must meet the requirements to be covered by CPWS liability insurance.

- Highly proficient in operating iPads and other electronic devices
