Summary

Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining and repairing specialized machinery and equipment and related mechanical and electrical components for wells booster pumps tanks at water treatment plants sewer lift stations pumps grinders wastewater treatment plants and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Crew Leader.

Essential Functions

Deliver excellent customer experiences in all interactions with internal and external customers.

Maintaining and repairing grounds equipment; water and sewer treatment plant equipment; assisting with the installation of equipment; maintaining records and assists with ground maintenance; as required.

Maintains and repairs; rebuilds; disassembles; assembles; reassembles; installs; test and runs machinery; equipment and related mechanical electrical components including well pumps; aerators; softeners; filters; lift station pumps; generators; other water and wastewater plants and well site machinery and equipment.

Repairs; rebuilds and/or replaces valves; solenoids; ball valves; pumps; pipes; electrical components; etc.; performing soldering when necessary.

Troubleshoots minor electrical problems; mechanical problems; plumbing problems; and hydraulic problems; processing problems and other equipment problems.

Maintains and repairs pumps; motors and hydraulic systems and other apparatus and equipment; changes impellers; flapper valves; hour meters; replaces air release valves.

Maintains; repairs and replaces equipment components at booster pump sites; elevated tanks; well sites; etc.; including well pumps; filter pumps; high service pumps; booster pumps; chemical pumps; sump pumps; submersible wastewater pumps; grinders; check valves; injectors; scales; switches; receptacles; wiring; fans; starters; ballasts; vent fans; heaters; etc.; replaces fuses; belts; chains; etc.; on motorized equipment such as mowers; blowers; pumps and small vehicles; etc.

Maintains and repairs buildings; building equipment; grounds equipment; generators and HVAC systems.

Maintains and replenishes inventory of repair parts.

Prepares and maintains record of work activities.

Responds to emergency repair calls.

May be required to work outside normal work hours in emergency and on-all situations.

In case of disaster; either natural or man-made; as a condition of employment employee will be called upon to serve ONWASA customers. Service to customers during a disaster will result in the assignment of other duties; which will take precedence over duties described in this class description.

Education and Experience & Special Requirements

High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in water and/or wastewater treatment mechanical maintenance work or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must meet the minimum driving standards set by ONWASA and have possession of an appropriate driver’s license in the State of North Carolina.

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring a background check driving record check and pre-employment and random drug screening in accordance with ONWASA's Drug-Free Workplace policy. ONWASA's Drug-Free Workplace policy establishes a zero tolerance.

AED/CPR/First Aid certified.

Possession of or ability to obtain Facilities Maintenance Technologist certification and Pest Control certification.
