Job Description

This role is responsible for providing technical integration across Operational Readiness (OpR) functions to support the development and deployment of an advanced HTGR Small Modular Reactor (SMR) platform. The Operational Readiness Support Engineer serves as a bridge between systems engineering (requirements management), OpR disciplines, and project execution interfaces with design, licensing, construction, and commissioning. The role focuses on ensuring that operational considerations are embedded into the plant design and project execution lifecycle, and that OpR functions are fully aligned and integrated with engineering deliverables, project decisions, and regulatory requirements.

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:

- Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities, listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and some latitude for independent judgment.

- Develop and manage implementation of departmental project-level initiatives as directed.

- Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.

- Lead small groups of departmental staff to solve complex technical problems and deliver high quality work products on time and within budget.

- Support departmental leadership in ensuring programmatic continuity across multiple projects.

- Apply systems thinking and integration practices to ensure Operational Readiness functions are effectively incorporated into plant design, licensing, construction, and commissioning activities.

- Serve as the primary interface between Operational Readiness disciplines—including Operations, Maintenance, Radiation Protection, Chemistry, Plant Security, Plant Cybersecurity, Commissioning, Diagnostics, Training, Simulator, and Human Factors Engineering (HFE)—and other project stakeholders.

- Support requirements management activities by ensuring OpR functional requirements are identified, decomposed, and traced into system and design requirements.

- Coordinate with Systems Engineering to integrate OpR functions into MBSE models, system behavior models, and product lifecycle frameworks.

- Identify and manage technical interfaces between OpR functions, plant systems, and project execution elements (design, licensing, construction, commissioning).

- Support the development and review of OpR deliverables, including procedures, training content, simulator configurations, and readiness assessments.

- Provide technical input to interface control documents, change control processes, and configuration management activities as they relate to OpR.

- Facilitate integration workshops and working sessions to align OpR, engineering, and project execution activities.

- Identify, document, and help mitigate technical risks associated with OpR integration.

- Communicate technical details, progress, and issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Perform work in accordance with company quality assurance and nuclear safety management frameworks.

- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.

- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:

- The skills required for this role are typically demonstrated by 10 plus years of relevant experience.

- Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, systems engineering, industrial engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution required.

- Experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:

- Operational Readiness program elements (Operations, Maintenance, Radiation Protection, Chemistry, Security, Cybersecurity, Commissioning, Diagnostics, Training, Simulator, HFE).

- Requirements management and interface control.

- Systems integration within a nuclear or highly regulated industry.

- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methods.

- Interface management and configuration/change control processes.

- Technical risk assessment and management.

- Knowledge of nuclear safety culture principles and regulatory interface considerations.
