The Electrical Inspector II is a field-based role responsible for overseeing and inspecting electrical construction activities on large-scale energy infrastructure projects. This position primarily supports substation and HVDC converter station construction, with potential involvement in transmission line projects as needed.
This is an onsite, travel-based role requiring presence at active construction sites. The Electrical Inspector II represents the owner’s interests in the field and ensures work is performed in accordance with project specifications, drawings, industry standards, safety requirements, and contractual obligations.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience in high voltage electrical construction and demonstrates the ability to work independently while coordinating closely with construction management, engineering teams, contractors, and client representatives.
- Inspect and monitor electrical construction activities for substations, HVDC facilities, and transmission projects
- Verify installation of high voltage equipment including transformers, breakers, switchgear, bus systems, protection and control systems, and associated infrastructure
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and test procedures to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Perform quality assurance and quality control inspections throughout construction and commissioning phases
- Witness testing and commissioning activities including functional testing and energization support
- Document daily construction activities, field observations, and progress reports
- Identify deficiencies, non-conforming work, and safety concerns and coordinate corrective actions
- Participate in contractor meetings, tailboards, and coordination sessions
- Support review of RFIs, submittals, and change orders related to electrical scope
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility construction practices
- Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture on all job sites- Minimum 5+ years of experience in high voltage electrical construction or inspection
- Demonstrated experience in substation and/or HVDC construction projects
- Experience with transmission line construction is a plus
- Strong understanding of electrical construction practices, equipment installation, and commissioning processes
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
- Working knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and utility requirements
- Strong documentation and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently in field environments
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
- Journeyman Electrician or equivalent field experience
- Experience working as an Owner’s Representative
- Experience with protection and control systems testing
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Hourly pay range: $55 – $63 per hour depending on experience
- Position qualifies for overtime pay
- GSA rate per diem provided when applicable
