Under the direction of shop management and Engineering, the electrical engineer uses engineering principles and design software, to help design, develop, and maintain electrical control systems and/or components to required specifications, focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality, and sustainability.
Job Responsibilities
Electrical Design (90% of duties)
- Perform design work for projects utilizing principles of mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Utilizes computer software, drawings, and other tools to perform engineering tasks.
- Coordinates manufacturing, installation, maintenance support documentation and testing activities to ensure compliance with specification, codes and design requirements.
- Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.
- Inspects completed installations and observes operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment.
- Review drawings to ensure technical and regulatory compliance.
- Able to provide information and technical support to internal and external customers that meet customer and company expectations.
- Responsible for reviewing jobs to ensure the job meets or exceeds Customer expectations.
- Coordinate with customers regarding specification/design questions and clarifications.
- Work with Purchasing and Vendors to receive quotes and lead times to complete design.
- Understanding of basic electrical and control system principles and a familiarity with reading electrical schematics, three-line diagrams and control / communication diagrams.
- Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve objectives.
- HSEQ, DOT, OSHA compliance and conformance that delivered an excellent safety record.
- Competent with AutoCad and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook). Math Skills.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational skills (coordinate multiple group efforts with the company to achieve results) and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify processes needing improvement and recommendations towards improvement

- Able to work overtime (nights and weekends) to complete jobs in progress.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Performs power testing of protective relay panels, medium voltage switchgear line-ups, test communication, and HMI components on the relay panel. Testing also involves switchboards, automatic transfer switches, and other power distribution component.
- Reviews project specifications and implement testing procedures to comply with project requirements.
- Reviews test plans of large projects against schematics
- Maintains test folder for all projects with relevant test reports, test drawings, and test pictures.
- Leads problem-solving initiatives to analyze quality failures and help drive quality improvements (ex. ways to improve the efficiency of testing to reduce the time required).
- Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience or a minimum of 5 years of combined experience.
Physical Demands: Occasionally lifting a minimum of 50lbs on a daily. Position requires standing and using computer and/or phone for extended periods of time.
