The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Commercial Superintendent in New Orleans holds a critical, hands-on leadership position, directly responsible for the safe, compliant, on-schedule, and within-budget execution of all electrical, controls, and instrumentation systems on a commercial construction project. This role requires technical mastery of the E&I trade coupled with strong project management and supervisory skills.
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate the work of all in-house E&I craft workers, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring continuous workflow and optimal resource allocation.
- Master the project's contract documents, including P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), electrical schematics, cause-and-effect matrices, and technical specifications. Ensure strict adherence to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local New Orleans building and permitting codes.
- Perform rigorous, scheduled inspections of E&I installations, including but not limited to, cable tray systems, conduit and wiring, panel construction, grounding/bonding systems, and instrument calibration/loop checks, confirming all work meets design specifications and quality standards before third-party inspection.
- Coordinate with the Procurement and Logistics teams to ensure timely ordering, delivery, storage, and protection of all E&I materials (e.g., switchgear, controllers, wire, instruments). Oversee inventory and prevent loss or damage.
- As the licensed professional on-site, ensure the project adheres to all requirements of the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) for Electrical Contractors and related permits.
- Actively enforce the project's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) plan, conduct mandatory daily or weekly Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and toolbox talks, and proactively mitigate high-risk E&I activities such as working at height, live electrical work (LOTO procedures), and arc flash hazards. Must maintain current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for local New Orleans electrical inspectors, code enforcement officials, and utility company representatives (e.g., Entergy). Schedule and manage all required electrical and instrumentation inspections and testing.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.
