Clifton Water District is seeking motivated individuals to join our Distribution System Team as a Technician or Operator (Levels I, II, or III). Whether you're just starting out or bringing years of experience, we have a place for you!

Salary Range

- Distribution Tech / Distribution System Operator I: $26.68 – $34.68

- Distribution System Operator II: $29.43- $38.25

- Distribution System Operator III: $31.78 – $41.31

All compensation offers are analyzed individually and take into consideration multiple factors, including but not limited to years of experience, certification level, and educational background.

What You’ll Do

As a key member of our distribution crew, you’ll:

- Install, maintain, and repair water distribution system components.

- Respond to service requests and emergency calls — including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Read and inspect water meters, troubleshoot issues, and interact with customers.

- Operate heavy equipment like backhoes, dump trucks, and compactors.

- Collaborate with our Business Office, Water Treatment Plant, contractors, and the public.

Career Levels & Qualifications

We’re hiring across three levels — apply based on your experience and certifications:

Technician

- 1+ year of general labor or construction experience.

- High school diploma or GED.

- Must obtain Class 1 Water Distribution Certification within 90 days of hire.

Operator I

- 1+ year in water construction or utility work.

- Class 1, 2, or 3 Water Distribution Certification required.

Operator II

- 2–4 years in water/wastewater distribution operations.

- Class 1, 2, or 3 Water Distribution Certification required.

- Class 2 Certification preferred.

Operator III

- 3–6 years in water/wastewater distribution operations.

- Class 1–4 Water Distribution Certification required.

- Class 3 Certification preferred.

Additional Requirements

- Valid Colorado Driver’s License; CDL Class A required within 12 months of hire.

- Ability to work overtime and be on-call 24/7.

- Pass background check, drug/alcohol screening, and physical exam.

- Due to DOT regulations and because this position is classified as safety- and security-sensitive, it is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

- Comfortable working in extreme weather, confined spaces, and around heavy equipment.

Physical & Environmental Demands

- Heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs), walking, climbing, and operating machinery.

- Exposure to heat, cold, noise, chemicals, and atmospheric conditions.

- Use of respirators and safety gear is required.
