Performs all manner of studies, engineering, design, assessment and planning of distribution projects. Confers with engineers, customers or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products. Operates computer-assisted engineering or design software or equipment to perform engineering tasks. Prepares specifications for purchases of materials or equipment. Directs or coordinates manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation or testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes or customer requirements. Compiles data and writes reports regarding existing or potential electrical engineering studies or projects.
General office and sedentary. May frequently be required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach, bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
- Develops and analyzes software models of distribution systems.
- Sets criteria for use by in-house and contract engineers in the development of distribution studies.
- Troubleshoots unexpected substation and distribution feeder operations.
- Coordinates studies, changes and mis-operations with Cooperatives.
- Coordinates recloser, capacitor bank and regulator settings with Cooperatives.
- Monitors, evaluates and approves distribution line construction inspections.
- Approves expenditures related to distribution system engineering.
- Engineers and designs distribution feeder control logic and settings.
- Directs, trains, coordinates and supports engineering assistants assigned to distribution projects.
- Develops and maintains database of distribution relay and control settings.
- Monitors and assesses distribution feeder operations.
- Coordinates with Cooperatives to develop long-range studies and plans.
- Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering position in lieu of degree
