We are seeking an experienced Distribution Design Engineer with distribution design experience to support electric utility projects across northern Illinois. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing overhead and underground distribution systems in compliance with ComEd standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
This role involves collaborating with internal engineering teams, utility clients, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality distribution designs for new construction, system upgrades, and reliability improvement projects.
How you can make an impact:
- Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems in accordance with ComEd standards and specifications
- Prepare and review distribution design packages, including:
- Construction drawings
- Pole Foreman
- Permitting/CAD Drawings
- Asset Suite 8
- Utilize ComEd-approved tools and systems T.E.D./CEIGIS, Pole Foreman, IKE, Asset Suite 8, JWA, MicroStation/AutoCAD.
- Perform field reviews, site walks, and design validation as required
- Coordinate with ComEd engineers, municipal agencies, and property owners
- Ensure compliance with NESC, OSHA, and ComEd safety standards
- Support permitting, easements, and right-of-way requirements
- Respond to design comments and revise plans as needed
- Meet project schedules, budgets, and quality expectations
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent utility experience)
- 2+ years of electric distribution design experience- Direct ComEd distribution design experience (required)
- Strong knowledge of:
- - Overhead and underground distribution systems (4 kV – 34.5 kV)
- Utility construction standards and materials
- Proficiency with industry design software and drafting tools
- Ability to interpret utility standards, maps, and field data
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Experience with joint-use, relocations, fiber make ready, DA, and New service design
- Familiarity with ComEd processes and construction standards
- Prior experience working with a utility consulting firms on ComEd designs
