Job Description
Director of Sales
Location: Salt Lake City / Park City, UT (Hybrid Preferred)
Company: Powder Watts
Industry: CleanTech / Smart Energy / IoT
Employment Type: Full-Time | Base Salary + Commission
About Powder Watts
Powder Watts is a National Science Foundation–awarded company tackling the largest unregulated (no smarts) and energy-wasteful loads on the North American power grid: rooftop snowmelt (heat cables). Our smart energy management system prevents the needless drain of terawatt-hours of electricity every year while protecting buildings from costly snow and ice damage via smart, real-time monitoring. While growing in five states, we’re also expanding rapidly into new regions and customer segments.
We’re a fast-moving, mission-driven team building a category-defining solution for energy efficiency and grid resiliency.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Sales to lead our sales efforts and coordinate customer fulfillment during this critical phase of growth. This is a high-impact leadership role that reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for both revenue generation and monitoring / coordinating operational execution (installs) across our residential and commercial markets.
This position is designed with a clear advancement path to Vice President-level leadership. As we scale, this Director role will evolve into the founding VP of Sales, depending on your performance and the strategic needs of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Growth
•Drive direct B2B sales with builders, developers, HOAs, and commercial property managers and CFO’s.
•Build and manage a growing network of channel partners, resellers, and installation teams.
•Support strategic sales planning, set revenue targets, and track performance metrics.
•Collaborate with marketing on lead generation, campaign execution, and market positioning.
•Manage and optimize CRM tools and internal reporting systems.
Fulfillment Operations
•Oversee the full customer journey—from first contact to signed PO, through final installation.
•Coordinate field operations with third-party installer partners to ensure quality and timeliness.
•Standardize and optimize processes for logistics, scheduling, and customer communication across regions.
•Build scalable systems that align with growing regional and national demand.
Leadership & Strategic Planning
•Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and customer success teams to improve delivery outcomes.
•Provide strategic input on team structure, hiring, and resource planning.
•Act as a professional representative of Powder Watts in key partner meetings and client discussions.
•Contribute directly to long-term strategy with insights from the field.
Who You Are
•5–8+ years of experience in B2B sales and/or fulfillment operations, preferably in cleantech, home services, or IoT.
•Track record of driving revenue and managing partner or contractor ecosystems.
•Highly organized, systems-driven leader with excellent communication skills.
•Comfortable operating in a high-growth, fast-changing startup environment.
•Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong desire to step into VP-level leadership.
•Experience with CRMs and sales reporting tools.
•Preferably, know how to speak “power” and “energy” with facilities managers, chief engineers, sustainability directors, and ROI and Depreciation advantages with CFOs.
Compensation & Perks
•Competitive base salary plus commission on all direct sales.
•Defined pathway to promotion into VP role as the company scales.
•Flexible schedule and hybrid work setup.
•Opportunity to shape a core function of a high-impact, mission-driven company supported by the NSF, AWS and other leading organizations.
