The Director of Environment Services will be responsible for leading Intrepid’s environmental compliance program. This role will provide strategic guidance, specialist advice and associated tools, processes and methodologies to implement integrated environmental management across Intrepid in line with company policies and statutory requirements. This will include developing and supporting practices to evaluate, measure, monitor, and manage business, operational and reputational environmental risks affecting Intrepid.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Provide strategic leadership and direction to Intrepid’s Environmental function.
•Leads a team of environmental and sustainability professionals and technical experts, including external consultants, responsible for the delivery of large and / or complex environmental projects including site remediation, management of contaminated sites and initiatives to improve environmental performance
•Lead the effort to maintain compliance with Intrepid permit and regulatory requirements by proactively identifying potential concerns and providing guidance on corrective actions
•Leads the execution of the environmental management and sustainability strategy for all owned and managed assets
•Develop and maintain professional and constructive working relationships with all regulatory personnel
•Serve as Intrepid representative during facility inspections and other visits by regulatory personnel
•Provide guidance and assistance to Intrepid Operations with determining and implementing best practice operational controls for environmental compliance
•Ensure all relevant environmental data, statistics and information required by management, government bodies and agencies are accurately compiled and produced in a timely manner as required
•Provide project management leadership for environmental project initiatives as required
•Engage and coordinate appropriate contractor resources as required
•Assist with management of budget and costs for the Intrepid Environmental Department
•Assist Senior Leadership with environmental program risk assessments as required
•Lead by example and champion core values, policies and procedures
•Continuously analyzing business processes, impact of legislation, business requirements and stakeholder views to evaluate risks and plan for the management of risk areas
•Evaluating the effectiveness, suitability and adequacy of environmental management at Intrepid
•Analyzing and interpreting information in order to guide the mine’s environmental strategy and reporting as per stakeholder requirements
•Developing, implementing and reviewing environmental related policies, procedures and plans for the Company in line with its strategic objectives
•Remaining informed of global trends and environmental standards of good practice and interpreting their relevance for Intrepid and its operations
•Drafting, reviewing and approval of scopes, budgets and schedules for departmental and consultant assignments, including the scoping, commissioning and managing of Environmental Impact Assessments which cover the foreseeable scale of Intrepid’s operations
•Providing assurance to internal and external stakeholders regarding the mine’s Environmental Management performance
•Supervising the environmental team by interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments.
•Managing the key performance areas of environmental practitioners in the company by setting and monitoring performance standards and correcting deviations
•Design and implement environmental assessment process and monitoring protocols.
•Design and monitor environmental programs using data trends and make necessary changes as needed. Manages the execution of environmental system audits.
•Develop and implement processes necessary to continuously improve the environmental function and ensure compliance and conformance with all legal, business and regulatory requirements.
•Lead complex and high severity incident investigations and root cause analyses. Provide guidance to management team during a crisis. Work with external parties in emergency response efforts. Oversee and maintain records of accidents as required by law.
•Forecast necessary funds for staffing, materials and supplies, and capital improvement projects. Submit budget recommendations and justifications; monitor and control expenditures.
•Respond to employee environmental inquiries and regulatory complaints.
•Interacts closely with Intrepid senior managers, legal and other control functions to architect thoughtful Environmental practices, ensuring that risks and interdependencies affecting Intrepid are identified, measured and managed in an efficient and effective manner.
•Support and reinforce a pro-active environmental culture, communication channels to discuss, address, and escalate compliance issues, and sharing and learning of best practices and lessons learned.
•Lead the assessment of the effectiveness of established environmental programs and systems, identify weaknesses, and assist the business functions in developing and documenting viable solutions and procedures.
•Drives periodic reviews of environmental practices in critical Intrepid functional areas; monitor progress in addressing identified risk, compliance, and control weaknesses.
•Develop presentations to senior management to communicate the state of environmental compliance at Intrepid.
•Daily interaction with all functional headquarters and department leaders, field leadership and senior management. Maintains regular interaction with personnel involved in environmental functions.
•Maintain accurate and up-to-date environmental files, records, and documentation
•Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of environmental files and records
•Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred.
•Minimum of 15 years’ experience in environmental compliance, operations, and audit.
•Expert level understanding of federal and state regulations affecting Company.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Incumbents must be able to perform work that requires typing, reading, communicating, sitting for prolonged periods of time, standing, and walking.

•May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
In the event that the incumbent visits an operations worksite, personal protective equipment including but not limited to head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing may be required.
This position requires 35% - 50% travel to Intrepid operating locations in Utah and New Mexico.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Targeted salary range for this position is $180K to $205K annually. Salary commensurate with experience and skill set.
