General Summary:
Take ownership of and perform routine and emergency maintenance on all plant heavy equipment, plant vehicles and yard equipment to support plant operation. Provide routine and emergency maintenance on mechanical equipment to ensure safe, efficient and reliable electric plant operation. Maintain inventory of spare parts for motor pool and associated equipment involved. Assist in budgetary expenses for future planned maintenance of equipment.

Plans, implements and maintains the startup and long-term operation of current plant heavy equipment, plant vehicles and yard equipment, as well as new equipment and systems to facilitate safe, accurate and efficient operations.
•Performs diagnostic, preventative and repair maintenance on all plant heavy equipment, plant vehicles and yard equipment to ensure safe, efficient vehicular operations
•Provides technical support to engineering and operations
•Responsible for managing backlog, scheduling, prioritizing workload and maintenance expenditures
•Provide timely customer service and relations when equipment is broke down and expedited repairs are warranted.
Leads and implements processes and procedures for maintenance of all Rainbow Energy Center fleet vehicles to ensure optimal performance, reliability and cost effectiveness.
•Acts as a job leader liaison for contractors and temporary employees and provides support to craft and non-craft employees
•Schedules maintenance repairs and interacts with outside resources to return equipment and vehicles into service quickly, efficiently to minimize interruption
•Schedules and performs regulatory and environmental compliance inspections of assigned equipment systems
•Assists in core and project budget preparation, specifically by proposing purchases and specification of new equipment, recommending spare parts inventory and continuous improvements to maximize efficiency and availability
•Maintains an adequate supply of inventory while sustaining a clean, orderly shop to maximize efficiency, cost-effectiveness and safety
Performs and assists with moderate to complex mechanical maintenance projects to ensure availability and maximize efficiency.
•Develops and manages long-term maintenance programs to support equipment including, but not limited to:
+ Lubrication
+ Balancing
+ Thermography
+ Ultrasound
•Assists with complex overhauls, predictive, preventive and breakdown maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment. Equipment includes:
+ Mobile equipment
+ Welding
+ Fabrication
+ Gearboxes
+ Heavy equipment
+ Valves
Maintains documentation on historical data to continually sustain and improve equipment and vehicles, as well as ensure safety to self, others and equipment.
•Utilizes, maintains and updates detailed maintenance documentation records needed to support a safe and professional work environment. Documentation records include, but are not limited to:
+ Calibration
+ Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
+ Logs
+ Manuals
+ Overhaul and rebuilt reports
+ P & IDS
+ Regulatory and environmental compliance records
+ Vendor prints
•Stays proficient, through continuous learning and training, on regulatory compliances and standards from various agencies including, but not limited to: NFPA, OSHA, EPA and the State Department of Health
•Reviews and recommends continuous improvements to maximize implementation and effectiveness of Rainbow Energy Center’s mechanical work practices
•Completes specific training to enhance knowledge and skills for required safety regulatory process and system technologies within plant ownership areas
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
An Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in automotive technology, diesel technology or mechanical maintenance technology; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required. Three years of maintenance experience is preferred. Work experience in power plant maintenance and/or heavy equipment maintenance is strongly preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must complete North Dakota Generation Mechanical Skills training program within three years. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
•Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in heavy equipment, plant vehicles and yard equipment.
•Skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Maximo along with other computer applications for record keeping.
•Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment and systems.
•Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and written.
•Ability to read and interpret vendor and manufacture schematics and instruction manuals, plant procedures and work practices.
•Ability to learn, interpret and adhere to REC standards, safety procedures, regulatory and environmental compliance practices in support of REC’s safety program, environmental management system and Rainbow Energy Center’s Mechanical safety program.
•Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize time and workload to accomplish tasks.
•Ability to self-motivate while working independently and/or as part of a team.
