SA Recycling, a world leader in the metals recycling and processing industry, is actively looking for a dependable and safety minded individual to join our team as a Diesel Mechanic Trainee. In this role you will be learning all aspects of the trade under the guidance of an experienced Diesel Mechanic. Our Diesel Mechanics performs basic to intermediate repair/troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs, (including light welding and metal fabrication) on both trucks and heavy equipment in a metals recycling yard.
This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

- Assist with all routine and preventative maintenance tasks (fluid checks/fills, lubrication, drive belts/hoses changes, filters, and inspections.) on both trucks and heavy equipment per the manufacturer and SA Recycling guidelines.
- Assist mechanics with service and repair tasks for mechanical, fuel, brake, suspension, hydraulic, cooling, and electrical systems.
- Generate shop supply order requests to ensure adequate inventory levels for fluids, belts, hoses, filters etc.
- Maintain exact records of all work performed.
- Model safe working habits and always abide by all safety policies and procedures.
- Organize, clean, and keep a safe working area and shop.
- Keep all buildings and grounds clean and neat in appearance.
- Track, organize, and maintain spare parts inventory and area.
- Must be available for after-hours and weekend callouts for emergencies as needed.
- Performs all tasks fully within SA Recycling’s Safety and Environmental practices and procedures.
- Vocational/Technical degree highly desired.
- 0 – 2 years of diesel technician’s service experience in a shop setting or on a military installation preferred.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Experience working in a scrap metal recycling yard or medium to heavy industrial environment preferred.
- Willingness to work in varied weather conditions.
- Experience in using industrial equipment such as a forklift, skid steer, and hoists preferred.
- Must be willing to complete, and successfully pass a drug screen, physical and background check.
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
