Department Overview

Diablo Canyon Power Plant’s (DCPP) Building Services Department is responsible for maintaining and providing support for the non-power block facilities at Diablo Canyon. Our mission is to provide employees with an environment free of distraction and conducive to productivity.

Position Summary

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.

This is a journey level position performing maintenance, repairs, and miscellaneous work required in the use, care, minor construction, and reconstruction of buildings and grounds.

- Assists in training assignments.

- Performs building work.

To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate range for this position is $49.95 to $59.02, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

Responsibilities

- Must be willing to adhere to Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.

- Perform minor and emergency repairs as necessary on non-power block facilities; use proper hand tools to perform minor repairs, adjustments and tune-ups; use power tools, including shop fixtures such as table saws, drill presses, band saws, etc.; troubleshoot electrical problems and resolve them through the use of drawings, measuring equipment and knowledge based problem solving; replace and/or repair switches, lights, ballasts, circuit breakers, panel boxes, transformers, relays, electrical controls; inspect, replace, and/or repair plumbing connections, seals, water/sewer lines, valves, hot water heaters, drinking fountains and pumps; build shipping crates for the equipment sent out for repair; perform weed abatement and storm drain cleaning; paints buildings, parking lines, and may perform graffiti removal; and receive and investigate day or night emergency calls.

- Determine appropriate layout and perform installation and adjustments of systems furniture; and implement ergonomic enhancements.

- Drive vehicle to a designated job site; perform off-site errands to pick up parts to make deliveries; re-fuel vehicle or equipment as needed.

- Conduct visual, auditory and mechanical inspection of equipment to determine extent of repairs needed and to identify needed replacement parts; uses gauges, voltmeter, and testing equipment to analyze and solve equipment problems.

- Operate a fork lift to load/unload equipment, parts, supplies or materials and operate aerial lifts - Maintain job area in clean and safe order; clean, maintain, and store work-related tools and equipment; sweep floor; pick up trash and debris; clean up spills; and properly label, maintain and store hazardous materials used during the normal course of work.

- Communicate with internal and external customers regarding safety, parts, repairs and timelines; interact in an effective and positive manner with clients; listen carefully to clients and understand their needs; and ensure commitments to clients are met.

- Record completed work; record equipment maintenance and repair histories and facility related information, including all parts used and completed inspections; access electronic service/parts manuals and catalogs; write down part names and serial numbers for ordering; and maintain records on equipment, services and work hours.


Qualifications

Minimum:

- Must be at least 18 years of age

- Must possess a high school diploma or GED

- Must possess a valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain by first day of employment

- Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds as needed

- Ability to work around energized, high voltage and large mechanical rotating equipment and within and around a nuclear environment

- Ability to work in awkward positions, in confined spaces (very small areas), in elevated areas (working from heights), performing work tasks from ladders, scaffolds, metal gratings or in fall protection situations as well as indoors, outdoors, and in hot environments

- Ability to work overtime on weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays and work swing and night shifts


Desired:

- CA CDL Class A Permit, or equivalent, based on operational need

- Facility maintenance or related construction field experience

- Previous DCPP experience

- Experience with electrical, plumbing, and/or carpentry

- Experience using measuring and test equipment

- Possess basic tool skills

- Excellent communication skills

- Possess intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office, SAP)

- Live within 50 miles of headquarters
