This position is a flex position. Candidates will be hired in at a level I, with a starting salary of $22.06 hourly. After a 6-24 month period, the selected candidate will be evaluated to determine if they meet the criteria to flex to a level II, with a starting salary of $23.75 hourly.

HOURS OF WORK: 4/10's, 2:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m., M-Th

The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate the ability to perform commercial custodial tasks in a high volume, fast-paced business environment; work independently with minimal supervision; be willing to help when the team is tasked with special projects; be able to communicate effectively with employees of all levels; and exhibit work schedule flexibility as well as overall professionalism.

INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires for minimum qualifications. Candidates possessing the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The successful candidate may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs custodial and cleaning duties in District buildings, plants, facilities and adjacent grounds; and performs related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The level and scope of the knowledge and abilities listed below vary according to the I versus II levels distinguished in the previous section.

Knowledge of:

Proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning materials, disinfectants, janitorial tools and equipment; use and minor maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in custodial work; safety practices and equipment related to the work; proper mixing and dilution of cleansers, disinfectants and stripping agents; safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.

Ability to:

Understand and follow written and oral instructions; complete assignments independently without immediate supervision; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.

Training and Experience:

The following are typical ways of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above:

Custodian I – Demonstrated ability to learn and perform custodial duties.

A Custodian I may be considered for advancement to Custodian II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class. Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria are established jointly by hiring authorities and the Director, Human Resources and are described in a separate document.

Typically, a Custodian I is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within a 6–24 month period, depending on an individual’s prior experience and progression in performing the full range of Custodian II duties as described in the established performance criteria.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements

Some assignments may require a valid Nevada driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
