Position Description:

Looking for a motivated individual to join our cathodic protection team. Corrosion Technician will be responsible for all facets of field corrosion prevention duties including external and internal corrosion control measures, atmospheric corrosion, tank corrosion, and AC corrosion. This will include design and installation projects, including operation/maintenance of project support.

The Corrosion Technician must also ensure compliance with company policies, procedures as well as federal and state regulations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

- Possess knowledge in internal corrosion control measures.

- Evaluate the effectiveness of the internal corrosion chemical program, including extraction and insertion corrosion coupons.

- Knowledge of adjustments of chemical injection pumps. Schedule swab runs and determines the amount of chemical required.

- Monitoring product downtimes and flow velocities

- Bacterial analysis and compositional water analysis

- Perform interrupted Annual and Periodic surveys, conduct proper interruption cycles, verify polarity and maintain half-cells.

- Adhere to NACE Standards to ensure proper CP protection.

- Bi-monthly rectifier inspections, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairs, proper tap settings of (Volt/Amp)

- Inspection of above/below grade pipelines tanks and recoat projects. Identify unintentional exposed pipe, report and document.

- CP data review, interpretation and identifying NACE criteria. Field testing –verification of test stations, foreign interference, isolation points, critical bonds and shorted casings.

- Inspect the installation of deep wells and conventional ground-beds. Install rectifiers, solar rectifier units, and RMU’s. Set rectifiers and verify P/S readings.

- Maintain sacrificial anode systems.

- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair rectifiers, solar rectifiers and RMU’s.

- Supervise contractor crews for corrosion projects; (ground-bed installations, painting atmospheric piping, submerged pipeline coating, and installing various CP systems).

- Supervise and/or conduct CIS/Depolarization, DCVG and ECDA surveys. Verify data collection and then follow analysis of data with remedial action plan.

- Perform ultrasonic thickness testing to determine metal integrity on piping and tanks.

- Knowledge of the one call system and line locators.

- Maintain, install, and/or repair faulty CP test stations, pipeline signs, and aerial markers.

- Knowledgeable in AC corrosion control measures, mitigation, monitoring and evaluation of data.

- Knowledge and understanding of the American Innovation PCS/CPDM program.

- Assist management in planning annual corrosion budgets.

- Assist with all regulatory inspections.

- Understand company procedures and maintain Operator Qualification (OQ).

- Complete special projects and annual objective, as assigned.

- Maintain attendance, be accountable and take direction from supervision, adhere to required work schedules, focus on attention to detail, and follow instruction.

- Maintain regular and dependable attendance, and a high level of performance.

- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, employee’s safety, company assets, and the public.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets.

- The position can be officed out of Midland or Denver City TX office but the successful candidate may live in surrounding areas.


Position Requirements


Education:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.


Experience, Specific Knowledge, Certification, & Licenses:

- Minimum 5 years’ experience in pipeline or related operations

- NACE Corrosion Technician or Corrosion Technologist Certification

- Internal corrosion knowledge is a requirement

- Knowledge and hands on experience with PCS/CPDM software applications is a requirement

- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

- Exercise skill in the monitoring, maintenance, and repair of cathodic protection facilities.

- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and requests.

- Analyze and evaluate operations; develop and implement corrective action to resolve problems.

- Use senses of sight, hearing, and smell to aid in the identification of systems and equipment malfunction.

- Distinguish basic colors.

- Physically perform the essential job functions.

- To meet the various maintenance and general operational requirements, a Technical aptitude is necessary.

- Must be self-motivated and capable of working alone and/or with minimal supervision.

- Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

- Well-balanced interpersonal skills and demonstrable verbal and written communication skills.

- Must be accountable and take directions from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential. Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions and/or provide recommendations.


Working Conditions:

- Physical demands- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, and 50 pounds from floor to waist.

- Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, and carry up to 50 pounds.

- Must be able to communicate effectively.

- Drive a 4-wheeled drive vehicle several hours per day. Must be able to navigate the pipeline right-of-way without accidents or equipment damage.

- Travel to remote areas within a particular region may involve extended periods of driving, both on and off road. Working environment will involve exposure to extreme weather conditions, difficult terrain, traffic hazards, wildlife, snakes, spiders and other crawling and flying insects.

- Work in remote areas is often done alone and without direct supervision; judgment is required when consultation with management is not possible. Must schedule and monitor your own work, and work of indirect reports.

- Travel may be required, including overnight stays for several days.

- Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities.

- Work is performed outside in conditions that may include winter conditions or extreme summer heat and sun, with temperatures ranging from 0F – 120F.

- Must plan, schedule and monitor your own work.

- Position subject to 24-hour call-out.
