The Civil Superintendent reports to the Project Manager and is responsible for a wide variety of duties specific to completing a job. All duties are specific to their role in the system and its efficiency.
o SAFETY – Follow and enforce safety procedures to always ensure safety of self and crew. Always assure safety of crew and adhere to the U.S. Occupational Safety Health Administration’s (OSHA) construction regulations (i.e., mandatory use of trench boxes). Personal and crew use of personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, proper footwear, and gloves) and proper attire while excavating. Report all hazards and near misses, train and lead crews as needed in daily JSA/toolbox talks. Supplies/coordinates traffic control assistance.
o SITE/JOB PREP/ABILITIES: Read and fully understand plans at an expert level; Work on plans and specifications, lead and train crew with jobsite layout, equipment management, manpower organization, and produce a weekly jobsite 3-week look ahead schedule. Perform/ delegate/instruct all tasks and responsibilities of all residential and commercial scopes of work on all projects and assist with onsite labor duties when required.
o EQUIPMENT: Operation of all associated equipment for all tasks in all situations, to include excavating prep within a tenth on all hard surfaces for all projects and situations. managing/run projects and crews if/when required. Maintain necessary septic and competent person certifications. Coordinate with other Superintendents and PM to schedule and reserve equipment for projects.
o MANAGEMENT: Ability to manage multiple crews of different sizes on multiple projects. Ensure crews are present and in the correct jobs. Provide on-site assistance. Assist with equipment and materials being set up at job sites; assist on-site as needed. Manage job material supply/delivery to sites, reduce waste on jobs, and procure occasional supplies. Schedule trucking needs with the Trucking manager by 12:00 PM the day before trucking is needed. Schedule equipment mobilization for all associated scopes of work on all projects that you are assigned. Attend all project site meetings and relay changes and schedules to the Project Manager. Call in locates and manage locate tickets throughout the excavation scopes of work.

o OWNER/CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: Providing customers with a quality product per customer’s desires, specs and local regulations and requirements; both internal and external clients. Replays to customers request with written response within 24 hours, provides customers with schedule, expectations, and durations.
o COMMUNICATION: Superintendent will be the first point of contact for all field questions from crew regarding jobs. Be always available to crews, customers, and team members for clarification of job details. Make recommendations/advise the Customer, Project Manager, and Operations Manager of information pertinent to job status, changes, problems or potential problems and work progress. Maintain regular and open communication with Project Manager and attend weekly debriefing.
o OFFICE SUPPORT/PAPERWORK: Ensure crews are prepared for starts with the provided documentation and job worksheets/DVIRs are completed and turned in daily. Submit City of Bozeman sewer certification sheets and septic as builds, when required, in a timely manner. Manage and turn in paperwork in a timely manner; job worksheets to assist in billing, precent complete analysis, crew performance reviews, staffing recommendations, policy acknowledgements, DVIRs, etc. Assist Project Manager with submission of city/county paperwork. All receipts, T&M sheets, trucking tickets, delivery invoices, etc... are turned in daily.
