Position Overview:
The Safety Manager will lead daily safety management activities, enforce and improve safety culture, policies, and procedures, and ensure compliance across multiple construction sites throughout New England. This role requires a hands-on safety professional who can balance a “make it happen” mindset and strong customer focus with unwavering commitment to safety compliance. The Safety Manager puts employees and foremen first by anticipating and promptly addressing their safety needs while ensuring all activities meet regulatory requirements. This role includes managing a Safety Technician and engaging directly with field personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
•Collaborate with the Safety Director and Safety Technician to implement and maintain an effective safety management system.
•Conduct thorough construction site safety inspections to identify hazards and enforce safety standards.
•Prepare and conduct pre-qualification and pre-construction safety reviews to ensure safety is proactively planned and integrated into each site.
•Distribute, track, and maintain critical safety equipment to ensure readiness and compliance.
•Deliver safety training both in the classroom and onsite to employees and supervisors.
•Manage and direct one Safety Technician, providing guidance and oversight.
•Travel regularly to construction sites across New England to conduct inspections, training, and safety meetings.
•Utilize spreadsheet programs, preferably Smartsheet, to track safety compliance tasks, inspections, and corrective actions.
•Monitor and follow up on safety compliance tasks assigned to Project Managers and Foremen to ensure timely completion.
•Prioritize and address urgent safety issues promptly through phone, email, and preferably in-person interactions with foremen and employees.
•Foster a customer-focused approach by putting employees and foremen first, proactively ensuring they have the safety resources and support needed at all times.
•Balance the “make it happen” attitude with strict adherence to all safety compliance requirements and regulations.
•Apply NFPA 70E and OSHA 1926 standards with practical familiarity to provide accurate, reliable guidance to Project Managers and Foremen without improvisation or guesswork.
•Demonstrate maturity and judgment to advise holding off on activities when needed, to research and develop a compliant plan that ensures job completion with safety and regulatory compliance.
•Promote a positive safety culture by fostering open communication and proactive problem-solving.
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
•Proven experience in construction safety management, preferably in electrical or related trades.
•Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 and NFPA 70E standards and construction safety practices.
•Experience managing safety personnel and working within a safety management system.
•Proficiency with spreadsheet and project management tools, with a strong preference for Smartsheet experience.
•Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
•Ability to travel frequently throughout New England.
•Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
•Hands-on approach with a focus on onsite engagement and problem resolution.
•Safety certifications preferred: OSHA 30, OSHA 500, OSHA 510, Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certifications are a plus.
•Demonstrated ability to balance a “make it happen” attitude with uncompromising safety compliance and sound judgment.
•Strong customer service focus toward employees and foremen.
