This role sits within Teck’s Project Development Group and is accountable for delivering underground infrastructure within a major capital project environment. Rotational schedule will be 2 weeks on site, 2 weeks off site.
The successful candidate will lead exploration phase construction activities for the Red Dog Mine Life Extension Project, advancing underground development to enable long-term continued production at Red Dog Mine and the responsible supply of metals essential to the energy transition.

- The Construction Manager (Underground) is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering all aspects of underground mine development within a technically complex underground environment, with a strong focus on decline design, excavation, ground support, and construction execution.
- This role operates within a matrix structure with reporting alignment to the Project Manager and oversees project planning, engineering coordination, contractor performance, safety leadership, and quality assurance across decline development and associated underground infrastructure.
- The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge of decline geometry, ramp design, excavation methods, ventilation requirements, and geotechnical considerations, combined with proven experience managing construction teams in a high-risk underground environment.
- Promote and embed the culture of Teck’s Courageous Safety Leadership program on the project and ensure Teck’s values of safety and sustainability are achieved.
- Accountable for the overall construction delivery of the project, including ensuring scope, schedule, and budget are aligned with the business case.
- Responsible for reviewing, validating, and optimizing decline design parameters, including alignment, gradient, ground conditions, and support requirements.
- Ensure all aspects of project implementation adhere to Teck’s policies, procedures, and Health, Safety, Environment and Community management standards.
- Provide leadership and champion disciplined execution and continuous improvement on-site.
- Preparation and implementation of a Construction Execution Plan.
- Responsible for transferring actual project learnings into the improvement of company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for administrative duties required for the smooth implementation of the role within Teck’s Project Development Group, including the preparation of Weekly and Monthly Reports.
- Supervision and performance management of all direct reports.
- Minimum 15 years experience leading project management and controls on major mining infrastructure, specifically underground mining projects including, overseeing all phases of underground construction related to decline development, including access ramps, vent raises, pump stations, electrical installations, and associated infrastructure (above and below ground).
- A graduate degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, or a related field, or experience equivalent to a graduate degree experience, is desirable.
- Strong skills and knowledge of overall project implementation management processes.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good critical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Strong skills in estimating, engineering, and scheduling are crucial.
- Results oriented with excellent organizational, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrable computer skills.
Pay Range: USD $140,000 - $173,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
