Position Overview:
We are seeking a
Construction Coordinator
to support and oversee make-ready and fiber optic infrastructure projects across the Macon, GA area. This field-based role is responsible for coordinating daily construction activities, ensuring contractor compliance with plans and standards, and maintaining strong communication between utility stakeholders, contractors, and Gridco’s project teams.
This is a hands-on, high-accountability position best suited for someone with deep field experience in telecom or utility construction and a proactive approach to quality, safety, and production.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Construction:
•Participate in pre-construction meetings with utility partners and contractors
•Review construction drawings, permits, and project scopes
•Confirm utility locates (811) and coordinate site readiness
•Assess site hazards and support safety planning for each job
Daily Field Operations:
•Monitor daily contractor activity and ensure safe, compliant work execution
•Conduct jobsite safety walkdowns and attend Job Safety Briefings
•Perform quality control checks and verify installation matches plans
•Coordinate with utility project supervisors and material coordinators
•Serve as Gridco’s on-site point of contact for all project stakeholders
•Maintain daily job logs documenting production, issues, and weather
Progress Tracking & Documentation:
•Submit weekly reports with site photos, percent-complete estimates, and forecasts
•Verify and reconcile contractor billing quantities for unit or lump sum work
•Review contractor timesheets and support invoicing accuracy
•Ensure all documentation is submitted accurately and on time
Close-Out Support:
•Participate in punch list walks and verify completion of outstanding items
•Ensure environmental permits and BMPs are properly closed out
•Submit final redlines/as-builts, feedback forms, and contractor evaluations
•Coordinate return of unused materials
Qualifications:
•10+ years of experience in telecom or utility construction
•Proven experience as a lead, foreman, or field inspector on fiber or make-ready projects
•In-depth knowledge of underground construction and fiber installation
•Experience interpreting construction drawings, scopes, and permits
•Familiarity with OSHA, MUTCD, ADEM, and other regulatory standards
•Electric utility experience is a strong plus
•Strong organization, communication, and documentation skills
•Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Teams, and basic reporting software
•QCI certification preferred (or willing to obtain upon hire)
•Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Travel & Physical Requirements:
•Regular travel to job sites within the region
•Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
•Capable of walking uneven terrain and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally
