Conservation Education Assistant

Support and lead youth education programs and community outreach activities

Organize and prepare supplies for youth programs and community outreach events

Prepare and set up educational displays for school and community events

Photograph and record video footage of events and programs

Support training and coordination of TRWD volunteers

Support implementation of creative education programs, such as art contests

Prepare community outreach materials such as flyers, posters, and signage

Research ideas for new educational activities, resources, and displays

Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service

Strive for continuous improvement and innovation

Perform other duties as required

One (1) year of experience in community outreach or youth education

Knowledge of water conservation, environmental science, urban and natural water cycles, pollution prevention, and storm water management

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in public speaking and instruction

Ability to engage young people and their families in hands-on activities

Ability to work alone with minimal supervision and with others in a team environment

Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours

Ability to proficiently use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

Two (2) years of experience in youth education or community outreach

One (1) year of experience in water conservation, environmental management, horticulture, ecology or related field

One (1) year of experience working with socio-economically diverse communities

Experience with graphic illustration software

Proficiency in Spanish

Required Education/Certification/License:

Bachelors Degree in Education, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field

Valid Texas drivers license

Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk or hear. Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically resides indoors in offices, school classrooms, libraries, community centers, and outdoors at school campuses and parks, which will expose the employee to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
