Primary Purpose
The Community Outreach Advisor is the liaison between the business (projects, operations, etc.) and the local community. Serve as the point of contact for the community, including local elected officials, community leaders, non-profit organizations, schools, and other key stakeholders during the permitting, construction and development of Sempra Infrastructure projects. In this role, it will be imperative to foster and maintain a positive company image. This person will develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans including community meetings, grievance management and employee engagement programs and supporting community outreach efforts. Plan, implement and evaluate stakeholder engagement strategy, programs and events in support of business and project goals. Plan, produce and oversee execution of programs, promotions and events for the company's regional events. Foster and maintain a positive company image. Oversee and assist with coordination of conferences, meetings, seminars, board involvement and other events. Serve as the liaison between the projects or business and the local community. Duties and Responsibilities
•Develop and manage robust social investment portfolio that consists of projects and grants aligned with the company’s social performance goals. Manage relationships with local non-profit organizations, provide data for sustainability reporting and hold funding partners accountable for all necessary reporting.
•Represent the company at community functions and public meetings. When required, communicate company’s position on issues to a broad array of stakeholder groups. Serve as primary spokesperson in the community at community events and brief/coach executives before and during community engagements.
•Develop, design and implement stakeholder engagement plans, programs and events in support of strategic goals and objectives for the region and regional headquarters office. Implement community relations activities to positively impact company reputation. Maintain current knowledge and awareness of public opinion/reaction to external events in order to proactively manage relationships and community relations activities.
•Support company’s leadership team regarding their community involvement including advising on areas of concerns or potential reputational risks. Research and provide insights consistent with company positioning on business initiatives and community engagement areas of giving. Develop briefing books, talking points, power point presentations and/or other materials as needed.
•Work with government affairs and external communications to produce relevant talking points, community impact reports, or other necessary collateral necessary for stakeholder engagement activities.
•Develop and spearhead external employee engagement initiatives that support company goals. Provide support to executive champions for these efforts by coordinating all event logistics and day-of-event activities.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
•Bachelor's degree in community relations, public relations, journalism or a related field required.
Experience
•5 years of related professional experience in marketing, communications and/or public relations required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally, including community partners, company leadership and management teams, employees, vendors and others.
•Must possess excellent written and verbal skills, including writing, proofreading, copy-editing and ability to clearly communicate information effectively and persuasively; ability to create and edit in Power Point and other presentation software.
•Must have broad understanding of strategic and data driven social investment strategy and execution.
•Must have experience in making presentations to stakeholder groups.
•Ability to use contact management system and social media channels to create and send emails, newsletters, e-blasts and other communications is highly desired.
•Strong attention to detail in preparing written materials including briefing books, talking points, positioning documents, spreadsheets and other materials is highly desired.
•Must possess a strong background in event planning and execution; includes making site visits, finding resources, coordinating on-site arrangements and appropriate staffing; contract negotiations with vendors, budget management and other event-related activities.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
•Enthusiasm for the mission, vision and values of Sempra and its family of companies.
Other Working Conditions
Will frequently be required to visit field sites. Must be able to adhere and comply to stringent safety standards both in the office and at any project/job sites. Driving to new project or stakeholder sites is required.
