Michigan Energy Options (MEO), a nonprofit, has been serving the community since 1978. We pursue daily our mission of guiding communities toward being more sustainable and resilient through the adoption of energy efficiency and renewable energy. We do so by providing our unbiased expertise and research, our results-driven programs, and our collaborations with decision makers, business leaders and residents of Michigan.
The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in promoting energy efficiency throughout the Lansing community. This position engages directly with residents and businesses by promoting local utility program offerings at community events, retail locations, and local organizations, as well as by building and maintaining partnerships. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the Lansing area’s diverse populations and a strong commitment to client service.
In addition, this role will support collaborative efforts with local action agencies, utilities, and state organizations to help braid together funding sources for community members, ensuring coordinated and accessible support.
This is a hybrid position which requires schedule flexibility, reliable transportation, and access to internet services capable of supporting employer-provided equipment, such as a laptop and Voice Over IP phone.
This role is well suited for individuals with experience in community engagement or public relations and an interest in energy conservation.
- Represent the program at community meetings, workshops, events, and retailers to increase awareness and participation.
- Coordinate and attend community outreach events, occasionally outside of normal business hours.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Lansing-area residents and community organizations.
- Collaborate with local action agencies, utilities, and state organizations to braid together resources and funding sources for community members.
- Identify community needs and provide feedback to program staff to improve services and outreach efforts.
- Track, document, and report outreach activities, contacts, and outcomes.
- Support distribution of program-related educational materials.
- Maintain inventory of program materials and supplies, including tracking usage and ordering.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support evolving program needs.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish partnerships with and provide guidance to the Lansing-area community.
- Experience with community outreach, such as attending events or conducting phone outreach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including public speaking and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deliverables and deadlines.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Willingness and ability to learn new programs as needed (training will be provided).
- Residency within the Lansing area is preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to use personal vehicle for job-related purposes.
