SERC's mission is to reduce risks to the reliability and security of the electric grid (also known as the bulk power system), not only for today but also for the future.

Our team also partners with the best and brightest individuals from both the power industry and the federal government to understand and address the challenges facing the grid. SERC is a growing reliability and security organization leading 300 large and small electrical utilities towards a more secure and reliable electric grid. The Communication Specialist will often need to use their knowledge and creativity to enhance and maintain a positive SERC brand and effective stakeholder relationships through internal and external communication programs that promote SERC's mission, objectives, and values. In collaboration with the Manager, Communication, Outreach, and Training, this role enhances and sustains the SERC communications program which is focused on developing and delivering high-quality communication products that effectively share the important work we do.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CommunicationBranding
+ Ensure all graphic design, print materials, videos, and communication tools (e.g., brochures, reports, newsletters) are aligned with the SERC Brand. + Assist in developing and executing creative strategies for effectively communicating the important work SERC does to various audiences. + Create and implement communication plans for internal and external audiences that align with organizational goals for various initiatives. + Establish and maintain standardized communication processes, tools, and templates.
Content DevelopmentEditing
+ Write and edit a wide range of content, including social media posts, email announcements, alerts, event materials, website content, and internal updates. Ensure content is relevant, useful and accurate. + Manage the newsletter process from start to finish, including working with SMEs to identify articles, editing content, and designing and distributing through MailChimp. + Use graphic design skills and expertise to create templates, campaigns, and visual materials that align with SERC Brand Guidelines. + Assist in video and print production, including design, editorial direction, and distribution. + Spearhead crisis communications and support emergency protocols.
DigitalWeb Assets
+ Design and maintain engaging content, graphics and updates for intranet, digital signage, and public website. + Assist in creating and implementing engaging social media strategy tailored to various platforms and audiences.
Internal Stakeholder EngagementPerformance Monitoring
+ Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify the best strategies for communicating their messages. + Assist in facilitating cross-functional collaboration and contribute to ERO-wide communication alignment. + Monitor and analyze performance metrics to assess communication impact and guide future strategies, especially around website traffic, newsletter readership, social media effectiveness, and more.
Additional Responsibilities
+ Perform other duties as assigned to support SERC's communications, Outreach and Training goals.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated success in creating innovative and impactful communication programs that align with and support organizational goals.
Skilled in leading marketing initiatives and recommending fresh approaches to enhance existing communication strategies.
Proven experience in developing, strengthening, and maintaining a cohesive and recognizable brand identity.
Strong graphic design capabilities with the ability to integrate visuals effectively into communication campaigns.
Exceptional technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and brand-consistent content across various formats.
Capable of crafting both short- and long-form communications, including press releases, speeches, and feature articles using a distinctive and original voice.
Adept at handling sensitive inquiries or concerns with professionalism, confidentiality, and tact.
Flexible and adaptable, able to balance multiple priorities effectively.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite applications, including Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Publisher, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
Solid understanding of design principles such as color theory, layout, typography, image formatting, and survey or form creation.
Experience developing and distributing digital content across websites and social media platforms.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in team settings.
Consistently represents the organization with professionalism in all forms of communication.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university. Master's degree or MBA preferred.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field.
Electric industry experience preferred.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is DOE. We offer a generous PTO package; paid holidays; medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan with an organization contribution of up to 14%.
