JOB TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the Communications & Marketing Supervisor, this position is responsible for communications in the following capacities: communication initiatives and projects, shared responsibility for storms and outages, graphic design for internal and external campaigns, and support for community giving initiatives and outreach. This position also helps to shape the employee experience and engagement with the company, assists in the development and management of communication plans, and builds strong collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Performs all duties with the upmost regard for personal and workplace safety.
•Cultivates relationships throughout the company to understand initiatives, develop communication plans, manage the company brand, and assist in the development of internal and external campaigns.
•Performs as the spokesperson on Versant Power corporate initiatives and projects as well as internal and community initiatives.
•Shares media management, press release, spokesperson and communication duties for storm restoration and response.
•Designs (both graphic design and copywriting) or manages vendors in the design of all types of collateral including emails, posters, ads, promotional pieces, website content and social media content.
•Assists departments in the development of quality presentation materials, consistent with company brand and message.
•Works with the Communications & Marketing Supervisor to develop communication plans.
•Shares on-call duties to provide outage notifications in a timely manner.
•Supports public relations and corporate events to promote business initiatives as well as community investment.
•Reports problems or deviations associated with environmental issues and the Environmental Management System (EMS) to the Environmental Department.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Other related duties as assigned including designated duties associated with System Restoration.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, business, or related field.
•At least 3 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, relationship management, public presentation/speaking, marketing, and/or graphic design.
•Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to articulate complex messages.
•Ability to handle multiple and complex priorities in fast-paced environment. • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
•Proficiency with Power Point, Microsoft Word, and Outlook. Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator is desired.
•Proficiency with a Social Media Management tool, such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite is desired.
•Ability to work well with others, to lead a team or to work productively within a team.
•Valid Maine Driver’s license required.
PAY:
•Pay will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
