Job Summary

The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and verifying the safe startup and operation of new processing systems, plants, and equipment at mine sites. This role manages commissioning activities to ensure equipment and processes meet all functional, regulatory, and safety requirements. The Commissioning Engineer works closely with engineering, operations, construction, and vendor teams to optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and deliver a reliable handover for full-scale production.

Essential Functions

- Develop and implement detailed commissioning plans, including procedures, schedules, and documentation for process systems and electrical/mechanical equipment.

- Lead and conduct functional testing, calibration, inspection, and validation of new and upgraded equipment in accordance with design specifications.

- Collaborate with vendors, construction teams, and plant staff to ensure proper installation, startup, and troubleshooting of systems.

- Identify, document, and resolve commissioning issues and deficiencies; coordinate modifications to achieve design intent and project requirements.

- Ensure strict compliance with safety, environment, and regulatory requirements during commissioning and initial operation phases.

- Provide technical support and training for operators and maintainers as part of handover and ongoing support.

- Review and maintain commissioning records, test reports, and regulatory documentation for audit and operational readiness.

- Interface with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to communicate project status and commissioning progress.

- Participate in risk assessments, control of energy sources (lockout/tagout), and emergency response planning related to commissioning activities.

- Support continuous improvement of commissioning productivity, quality, and safety.


Qualifications And Skill Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, process, or related discipline) required.

- 5+ years commissioning experience on process plants, mining facilities, or large industrial projects preferred.

- Strong background in project execution, equipment startup, controls, automation, and troubleshooting.

- Excellent understanding of safety standards (MSHA, OSHA), environmental regulations, and commissioning best practices.

- Technical proficiency with testing procedures, calibration, and commissioning software/tools.

- Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

- Proven ability to prioritize, solve problems, and deliver under challenging deadlines or remote conditions.

- Ability to travel and work on-site as project demands require.

- Valid driver’s license; additional certifications in commissioning, safety, or project management are assets.

Compensation Data

Salary Range: $125,000 - $135,000
