Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join our Commercial Department. This role is vital to ensuring a steady pipeline of profitable work that keeps the department operating at or above capacity—helping us maintain team stability. The ideal candidate will proactively pursue project opportunities, prepare accurate and competitive bids, and build lasting relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. A strong understanding of commercial practices and the ability to interpret and leverage internal data is essential for success.
Job Requirements
Bid Solicitation & Business Development
•Identify and pursue bid opportunities to meet or exceed quarterly revenue goals.
•Use a wide range of resources—including online platforms, industry networks, and internal contacts—to find work that aligns with TLC’s capabilities and past performance.
•Participate in pre-bid walks and site evaluations as required.
Estimating & Takeoffs
•Conduct comprehensive quantity takeoffs and prepare accurate, competitive bids using the company’s current estimating tools and software.
•Apply sound estimating practices while maintaining desired profit margins.
•Maintain proficiency in Excel and Outlook for effective estimate management and communication.
Resource & Data Utilization
•Leverage internal data (e.g., from VP) to ensure constructible estimates based on real-world production rates.
•Stay informed about project backlog and adjust bidding strategies in coordination with leadership.
•Monitor market trends and historical performance to improve accuracy and profitability.
Collaboration & Communication
•Coordinate with project managers to ensure bid clarity and effective project handoffs.
•Support accurate performance reporting to refine estimating practices over time.
•Conduct post-bid follow-ups and continuously evaluate opportunities for improvement.
Relationship Management
•Develop and maintain strong connections with clients, general contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
•Expand your professional network to enhance visibility and identify new bid opportunities.
Professional Development
•Stay updated on current methods and industry best practices.
•Participate in on-the-job training (OJT) with project managers to deepen commercial maintenance and installation knowledge to improve estimating accuracy.
Qualifications
•Demonstrated experience in estimating within the commercial industry.
•Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
•Proficiency in digital takeoff and estimating software.
•Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Experience with internal data platforms (e.g., VP) is a plus.
Salary
Salary + 2% commission of awarded project
