COMBUSTION TECHNICIAN (CT1) (POWER PLANT OPERATION & MAINTENANCE)
Bucksport Generation, LLC is a peaking power plant located in Bucksport, ME. There is a small dynamic team onsite that is responsible for providing energy to the New England grid in peak power times and provides a key service to the power grid in the event of power shortages or black out events. We currently have an opening for a Combustion Technician I (CT1) who will be based in our power plant in Bucksport, ME, overlooking the Penobscot River, Fort Knox, and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory. The plant has a staff of 11, including an administrative/management staff of 4 and a technical/operations staff of 7. The position is an hourly wage position, generally working rotating shifts, either a combination of 10 hour and 8-hour shifts OR a Dupont 12 Hr. rotating schedule depending on assignment. The successful candidate will be required to work on holidays, nights, and weekends as scheduled. Overtime work will be required. The hourly workforce is represented by the USW Union Local 1188. The successful candidate will be required to join and be represented by the Union as a condition of employment. The plant includes a GE 7FA simple cycle dual fuel combustion turbine, 6 Caterpillar 3516 black start diesel generators, and associated equipment.

The CT1 position functions as Plant Maintenance and Plant Operations. When assigned to the maintenance function, the position generally works the following rotation – 4 weeks of 8-hour days (M-Fr), 4 weeks of 10-hour days (M-Th), and 4 weeks of 10-hour days (Th-Su.). When assigned to the operations function, the position will follow a rotating 12-hour Dupont schedule.
This position will come in as the junior position at the plant and will be assigned a combination of maintenance and operations shifts while training, will likely be assigned to the maintenance function initially, and then longer term, move to operations position.
Wages and benefits are set by negotiations between the Bargaining Unit and Company and are very competitive, and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as paid vacations and holidays. The current wage for this position is $41.12/hr.
· Maintain, calibrate, and repair plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems including PLCs, DCS, turbine controls and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
· Install and integrate various types of process control instrumentation equipment such as transmitters, controllers, and final drive elements.
· Perform mechanical repairs and adjustments to gas turbine and plant equipment including pumps, valves, fans, etc.
· Use computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) effectively to accomplish maintenance in an efficient and organized manner.
· Troubleshoot, make repairs and adjustments to electrical power apparatus including electrical switchgear, motors, motor control circuits, generators.
· Be able to perform all tasks required by the maintenance function of the position.
· Be proficient in the operation of gas turbine and generating equipment.
· Ability to comprehend and comply with procedures in a highly regulated environment (DEP, EPA, NERC, FERC)
· Ability to work alone for 12-hour shifts in an office/control room type environment.
· Be comfortable and proficient in computer operation and communication using digital means.
· Must be self- directed and able to make good, quick decisions with limited supervision and guidance.
· Perform operational rounds on plant equipment noting any unusual conditions.
· Responsible to follow all plant safety policies including LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, etc.
· Work overtime and callouts on an as-needed basis.
· Qualify to fill-in for plant operator vacancies when necessary.
· Ability and willingness to work in a union environment.
· Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by plant management.
The CTI position reports to the Operations and Maintenance Manager (O&M Manager). and will work closely with other team members.
We are seeking a candidate that can work well within a small team, maintain a positive attitude, and be able to perform tasks and duties outside of their comfort zone. Must be technically strong, and have excellent computer skills, including MS Office. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong attention to detail. Power plant experience or experience with power generation inside a manufacturing facility is strongly preferred.
· Other professional licenses taken into consideration (Electrician, Maine Stationary Steam Engineer, etc.)
