Cold Forming Machine Operator

An automotive brake component (safety critical part) manufacturing company in Buffalo Grove, IL is seeking a talented individual who is mechanically inclined and attention to detail for a cold forming operator position.

Job Description:

- Operate cold forming machines (metal forming involving lubricants)

- Perform in-process part inspection, visually inspect and take measurements to ensure that the parts meet specification

- Maintain part measurement records

- Conduct routine maintenance on cold forming machines

- Setup cold forming machines for different parts

- Modify tools using machine shop equipment when necessary

- Stop cold forming machine in the event of trouble and resolve issues

- Load raw material onto machines

- Weigh slugs and scraps and record on daily report

- Assist thread rolling department when necessary

- Assist surface finishing process when necessary

Qualification:

- High school diploma or GED required, some college or other schooling beyond high school is a plus but not required

- Prior experience working with cold forming machines is a plus but not required (will train)

- Prior experience in automotive manufacturing environment is a big plus

- Prior experience using machine shop equipment such as manual lathe, benchtop grinder, benchtop drill, cutoff saw, die grinder, surface grinding machine, and general hand tools is very much preferred

- Be able to lift 14LB-tool with one hand to insert it into the machine (some bending over on the machine while setting up)

- Attention to detail (a must)

- Be able to follow the work instructions (a must)

- Strong interpersonal skills (a must)

- Mechanically inclined (a must)

- Basic math proficiency (a must)

- Prior experience of driving forklift is a plus (forklift operator training will be offered)

- Be able to commit to long term employment (as training will require at least a few years to be able to run the machine independently)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

- Cold Forging: 3 years (Preferred)

- Manufacturing: 3 years (Required)

- Metal fabrication: 2 years (Preferred)
