SUMMARY:

A Coating Inspector is responsible for examining and evaluating processes, products, and systems to ensure they meet established standards and regulations. They identify defects, ensure compliance, and maintain quality control of finished products for conformance to shop drawings, specifications, and codes by performing the duties below. Must have “people skills” as this position will be dealing with our customer's representatives as well as employees. Organizational skills are a must along with record keeping and computer use and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Read and understand shop fabrication drawings for steel bridge fabrication.


· Read and understand specifications.

· Read and understand codes and code requirements for:


o Highway bridges


o Railroad bridges


o State DOT’s


Cleaning & Painting

· Visually inspect coatings for conformance to code.


· Enforce non-conformance procedure as required.

· Operates any diagnostic equipment needed to perform job.


· Control of calibration for equipment.

· Complete all required quality control inspection reports and distribute to appropriate personnel.

· Performs related duties as needed by supervision.


· Additional duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

· High School diploma or general education degree (GED);

· Minimum of three years’ related experience and/or training in steel fabrication; or an equivalent combination of higher education and experience in the steel fabrication industry or closely related fields.

· Certification within 3 to 6 months of employment. – May be longer for entry level position. Training provided for the right candidate.

· Strong communication skills - written and verbal.

· Must be proficient with MS Office platforms (Excel, Word, etc.)


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

· Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


· Ability to understand geometry.

· Ability to read and interpret measuring devices for both English units and metric units.


REASONING ABILITY:

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

· Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

· Must be able to read and understand shop fabrication drawings.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near burning equipment, welding equipment, welding equipment, material handling equipment including overhead cranes, and cleaning & painting equipment. The noise level in the work environment is very loud.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour


Expected hours: 55 per week
