CDL A - Heavy Haul Driver - Brighton, MI

Position Description: The primary function of a Heavy Haul Driver is to drive a flat bed, heavy duty flat bed, tractor with Landoll trailer, tractor with flat deck or drop deck trailer, and a tractor with a Lowboy trailer. Driver will use this equipment to move objects or heavy equipment for customers. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Heavy Haul Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions:

- Able to drive all vehicles assigned, which may include manual transmissions.

- Maneuver trucks into loading and unloading positions, checking that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.

- Load cargo in a safe manner as trained, including operating heavy equipment as required to load/unload.

- Responsible for general maintenance of truck, including but not limited to: checking oil and fuel levels.

- Complete all “pre-trip” requirements before each truck run and “post-trip” requirement at the end of each shift.

- Able to push 96 pounds and pull 130 pounds and lift 63 pounds.

- Able to climb ladder with a minimum of 3 rungs regularly.

- Able to read and navigate road maps and GPS systems.

- Confirm that all necessary permits are obtained before delivering load.

- Able to drive in hazardous conditions, including inclement weather, tight quarters, and inner-city locations.

- Handle exposure to heavy traffic, dust, fumes, high and low temperatures, slippery surfaces, low-lighted work areas and high noise levels.

- Able to communicate via written orders and instructions.

- Demonstrate professionalism; be courteous and friendly to customers and co-workers at all times.

- Follow company quality, safety and environmental guidelines as well as employee handbook policies.

- Regular and reliable attendance and presence at work.

- Good interpersonal skills.

- Able to effectively perform responsibilities under a high level of stress.

- Operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

- Preform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications/Experience/Education:

- 3+ years truck driving experience.

- Valid CDL class A license required. Hazmat endorsement preferred.

- Able to pass pre-employment DOT physical, drug screen, Clearinghouse verification and 7-year criminal background check.
