Business Development Officer
In this role, you will work closely with our Managing Director and Senior Project Managers in the MHIUS division, connecting with international clients, MHI colleagues, and external partners to keep our global projects moving. You’ll have a mix of business development responsibilities, including assisting in the preparation of expressions of interest and proposals, identifying new opportunities, and serving as a point of contact for clients and team members alike.
You may manage smaller, low-risk projects (typically less than $300,000) and support senior Project Managers on larger ones. With this position, you’ll be at the center of project operations, helping keep everything on track through clear communication and efficient coordination.
- Monitor and assist with monthly/quarterly reporting requirements for various projects in progress
- Assist with the development of expressions of interest (EOIs), proposals, etc. in conjunction with other MHI staff, including Legal, Risk, Finance, and Human Resources.
- Liaise with various agencies and client organizations as directed.
- Work closely with contractors and project staff to verify their availability for project work, update their CVs, request inputs for proposals and reports, project timecarding, etc.
- Proofread/edit formal communications, documentation and project deliverables.
- Perform analyses and provide recommendations with respect to project-related financial and management reports.
- Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of project schedules and contractual obligations and highlight exceptions/potential areas of concern.
- Review sector information and/or general market information to assist with business development opportunities.
- Assist with project-related logistics such as investigating alternatives for housing, travel, and compensation.
- Assist with the development of project-related policies and procedures.
- Perform analysis and make decisions with minimal and oftentimes incomplete and/or imperfect information.
- Understanding that the business is customer/client driven, work extra hours as required in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging work environment.
- Travel on a short-term basis both in-country and abroad.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A four-year post-secondary degree in relevant discipline (Commerce, Business Administration, etc.) and a minimum of one year of related experience.
- A two-year diploma in relevant discipline (Business Administration, Project Management, etc.) and a minimum of three years of directly related experience.
- Alternate combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Completion of accredited courses in project management would be considered an asset.
- The ability to plan and coordinate work to ensure that deadlines are met, and ability to work under pressure, with minimal supervision, adapting to situations as necessary.
- Confidence, a self-starting drive with ability to work both independently and as a member of a larger team.
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent investigative and problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on deliverables, deadlines, project financials, and a drive to succeed.
- The ability to work effectively with all stakeholders in project-planning activities.
- Knowledge of budgeting and financial procedures would be a significant asset.
- Mature judgment, discretion, and ability to work harmoniously in a team setting.
- Creativity, self-motivation, and the capability of achieving broadly defined objectives.
- Possess a valid Manitoba drivers’ license and current passport with the ability to travel internationally to project locations.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluency in Spanish or French is considered a strong asset.

Hours Worked: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (8 hours/day on a 9-day bi-weekly cycle)
Hybrid Schedule: Mondays and Wednesday option to work remotely
